 1. Tornado systems test to be held monthly

UNL will join Lincoln/Lancaster County Emergency Management in
testing all tornado-warning systems on the 1st Wednesday of each
month at approximately 10:15 am. The first test will be held
on Wednesday, June 1, 2005. If you have any questions, please

 2. UNL Computer Store hours - Nebraska East Union

Temporary hours for the Computer Store at the Nebraska East
Union will be noon to 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 23 through
Friday, June 3.

 3. Credit Union Will Be Closed For Memorial Day

The University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union will be
closed Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day. Don't forget -
you can access your account 24-hours a day with our free

 4. Early Speech Production Project Seeking Infants

We are looking for 3-4 month old infants to participate in a
longitudinal study on early speech development on infants and
toddlers. This research will help us to understand how children
learn to speak, and may help to develop more effective
treatments for children who are delayed or impaired in
developing speech. Experimental sessions will be recorded on
audio and video tape. Participants will be studied once every
three months until 33 months of age and reimbursed $10 for each
visit. This research is funded by the National Institute of

 5. Transportation Services vehicle rental rates as of July 1, 2005

As a result of reviewing rental rate structure versus increased
costs for fuel, maintenance, supplies & replacement vehicles, &
a decline in resale values, Trans. Serv. must adjust its vehicle
rental rates. Effective July 1, 2005, monthly rentals will
increase $10 per month; daily rental passenger vehicles will
increase $1 (or less) per day; & daily rental pickups will
increase $4.00 - $6.00 per day depending upon model. Mileage
rates will increase $.01 to $.05 per mile depending on the
vehicle's underlying fuel efficiency), with higher mileage rate
increases for some special use vehicles. The July 1, 2005
standard rental rates are listed on Transportation Services web

 6. Year-end deadlines for Fiscal Year 2004-2005

Departments are encouraged to carefully review their financial
status to assure that planned expenditures in advance of
year-end can be processed early. Deadlines for year-end

 8. Water Initiative - Workshop Support Announcement

A major goal of the UNL Water Initiative is to encourage
interdisciplinary teams of researchers in the development of
funded research proposals. To facilitate this goal, the Water
Initiative is willing to support targeted workshops aimed at
proposal development. Funds are available to bring in
individuals from outside UNL to review and discuss conceptual
ideas and their implementation, either as a consultant to the
project or a potential member of the proposed research team.
Grants of up to $5000 are available for these activities.
Applications for workshop support must include a brief
description of the proposed project and its broader
significance, a statement of specific workshop goals, a list of
all participants and their affiliations, a specific grant
program that is the target for the research, and a budget.
Proposals are limited to 2 pages of narrative and must also
include a budget, as well as a 2-page c.v. for key UNL
participants. The c.v.'s should include a summary of research
funding and publications during the last 5 years. Applications
will be reviewed on a revolving basis and should be sent to:

11. Retirement Reception - Dr. Dave Keith

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln community is invited to
attend a retirement reception in honor of Dr. Dave Keith,
Entomologist in the Department of Entomology, on Friday,
June 10, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Nebraska East Union.
Dave will retire on June 30 after 38 years service to the
University of Nebraska.

A celebration will be held at the University of Nebraska ARDC
Research and Education Building near Mead, Neb., on June 3 at
11:00 a.m. The building will be renamed after a former Saunders
County resident at that time. The event also commemorates the
