 1. Annual Steam Outage

Planning for the Annual Steam Outages has begun. The centralized
steam distribution system must be shut down to conduct required
maintenance of equipment, including replacing and upgrading many key
components of the University's Utility System. The outages will occur
on the following dates depending upon an average weekly high
temperature of 60 degrees or more: City Campus only from May 7
through May 13; East Campus only from May 14 through May 20.
These dates were selected due to the decreased student activity
on campus. During the Steam Outages, there will be no heating and
no process steam available in those building systems served by
campus steam. In order to help us plan for these outages, contact
Charlie Griesen, 472-8612 or cgriesen2@unl.edu, with any questions
or concerns regarding processes requiring steam.

 2. Tornado Systems Test for May 3 Cancelled

The monthly test of tornado systems scheduled for May 3 has been
cancelled due to Finals Week. The next test is scheduled for June 7.

 3. Parking Permit Preorder for 2006-2007

Faculty/Staff can now order parking permits either on-line or
over-the-counter for next fall. Permit prices will increase by $1 per
month for non-reserved surface parking and $2 per month for faculty/
staff reserved and garage parking. A list of the FY 2007 permit fees
can be found at the URL below. Have your 8-digit NU ID number available,
found on your NCard, to order your permit. Make sure you have current
vehicle information for all vehicles you plan to have on campus. To
renew on-line, go to the website below and follow the permit order
link. To order renewals in person (beginning June 1), go to 625 Stadium
Drive, Suite A. Permits will be mailed to your office during the week
of Aug. 14.

 4. Houses moving April 30, expect traffic delays

Beginning 8 a.m. Sunday, April 30, three houses (the Triplets) will
be moved from near 22nd and O Streets to 15th Street north of the
BNSF tracks. The move route will be through the UNL City Campus: Vine
to 17th, 17th to X, X to 16th, 16th to W, W to 14th, 14th north across
the tracks then east on Claremont to 15th. The move will not affect
power or phone. Prior to and during the 8 a.m. move, intersections will
be closed and traffic stopped or detoured to prepare the route and
prevent disruption. As the houses pass by an area, it will be returned
to normal and reopened. The moves should be complete by 12:30 p.m. Plan
Sunday morning driving in advance. If any questions, contact John
Springer, Facilities Planning and Construction, 472-4818.
*************************************************************************
 5. Parking and Traffic Congestion May 3-6

May 3-6 will see additional congestion and changes in traffic
patterns on 14th, 16th and 17th Streets as nearly 4,000 residence
hall students, their parents, and extra vehicles move students home
for the summer. Barricades and officers will be providing traffic
control. If possible consider alternate parking and/or travel
routes to avoid the areas adjacent to City Campus residence halls.
*************************************************************************
 6. Department Application for Big Red Welcome 2006

On Aug. 20, following the New Student Convocation, the Big Red
Welcome street fair will be held at the horseshoe in between the
Rec Center, Stadium, and Morrill Hall instead of its previous
location on R Street. This location is expected to attract even more
students due to its proximity to the residence halls and the amount
of parking available between the parking garages at 14th and Stadium,
as well as the green lots located to the North of Henzlik Hall. Plus,
each organization will be more accessible; the horseshoe shape insures
that all 10,000+ students will have the capability to visit your
organization. Visit the website below for a department application for
the 2006 Big Red Welcome street festival.
