 1. Holiday Shutdown Notification

During the Holiday Shutdown (Dec. 23 to Jan. 1) most UNL buildings will
have reduced temperature control to save energy. Expect your room to be
uncomfortable. This does not apply to buildings that are normally exempt
from the Ventilation Curtailment Policy.

 2. Holiday Shutdown Procedures

When leaving your room for the Holiday Shutdown (Dec. 23 to Jan. 1),
turn off all lights, computers, peripherals, office equipment and appliances.
Make sure windows and doors are locked, and close drapes or blinds. Set
thermostats at 68 degrees or less. Turn off all lab equipment and close 
fume hood doors.

 3. Archive Your Fall 2003 Blackboard Courses

As of Jan. 1, Information Services will continue to maintain Blackboard
courses for the Spring 2004 through the current term only. To keep a copy of
the content of your courses from Fall 2003, you must archives those courses.
For instructions on archiving your courses, view the web address below. If you
have technical questions about this process, contact the Help Desk at
472-3970 (or if you're outside of Lincoln, toll free at 866-472-3970) or via

 4. UHC Payroll Deductions Processed in December

Employee payroll deductions for University Health Center (UHC) account
balances older than 30 days will be processed on the December 21st biweekly
and the Dec. 29 monthly paychecks. It is UHC collection policy that all
university employees receiving medical, dental or pharmacy services complete
a payroll deduction form and either assign benefits to an insurer or pay
(cash/VISA/MC) on the day of service. A message clarifying the collection
policy appears at the bottom of each statement mailed to the employee. If
you have questions about the UHC collection policy, call 472-7436 or

 5. EVM / MobilePATH / Visual Messenger Maintenance

The EVM / MobilePATH / Visual Messenger services will be unavailable on
Dec 28 due to scheduled system maintenance. If after Dec 28 you experience
any problems with these services call the University Operator at 472-7211.

The N Shop, located in 420 Nebraska Hall, is your exclusive source for
Academic N merchandise. Promotional items can now be viewed on our new

 7. A Time to Give and Receive

In the spirit of the holiday season, the UNL Computer Store is holding a coat
or blanket and canned food drive though Dec. 22. Bring five cans of food or a
gently used coat or blanket to any UNL Computer Store location and receive a
coupon for $40 off a Canon PIXMA MP160 ALL-IN-ONE printer. Coupon quantities
are limited. Canned food will be donated to the Lincoln Food Bank. Blankets
and Coats will be donated to the Good Neighbor Center.

 8. File SSN exemptions by 1/1/2007

Jan. 1, 2007 is the deadline for UNL to eliminate all non-essential use,
collection or storage of Social Security Numbers. If your service or program
requires the continued usage of Social Security Numbers, you must fill out an
exemption form to be reviewed by Information Services and approved by the
