 4. Strategic Research Cluster Grants - Request for Proposals

The Office of Research has announced the Strategic Research Cluster
Grants Request for Proposals. The goal of this program is to foster
and support interdisciplinary research groups at UNL in developing
their competitiveness for large-scale, multi-million dollar grants.
These funds are to support interdisciplinary groups of researchers
whose research targets an area where there is a known opportunity
for obtaining competitive federal funding. The proposal deadline is

 5. Opportunity for Youth to Experience UNL at Big Red Summer Camps

Several academic departments across campus are teaming up with
Nebraska 4-H to host a series of career exploration camps open to
all youth who will be in grades 9-12. At the 2006 Big Red Summer
Camps, scheduled during the week of June 11-16, youth can choose
from topics such as Child Development, CSI Nebraska, Culinology,
Fashion Design, Horsemanship, Media Mania, Movie-Making, Theatre,
Web Design and Animation, and Unicameral Youth Conference. For more

 9. Women's Week Observed at UNL March 2-10

* Women's Leadership Exhibit - An exhibit featuring information about
Nebraska women suffragists and women in science will be presented from
March 6 to 10 in the Alcove of the Nebraska Union.
* A Women's Week Art Show will be presented from March 6-10
in the Rotunda Gallery of the Nebraska Union. An opening
reception will be held at 5 p.m., Monday, March 6.
* Leadership Luncheon - "The Ruff: The Power Zone of the 16th Century"
will be presented by Barbara Trout, associate professor, Department
of Textiles, Clothing, and Design, at noon Monday, March 6
in Love Library. This presentation is part of the Queen Elizabeth
Exhibit, sponsored by Love Library. Feel free to bring your lunch.
* Leadership Luncheon - "A Transformational Journey: Women and
Leadership" will be presented by Dr. Gina Matkin, senior lecturer
of Leadership Studies in the  Agricultural Leadership, Education,

10. Retirement Reception for Bill Bode

A reception will be held for Bill Bode from 2 to 4 p.m. March 2
in the Nebraska Union to give the campus an opportunity to thank
him for his commitment to customer service and sound business
practices. Bode, director of Purchasing and Inventory, is retiring
from the University after 28 years of service. Letters of
congratulations may be sent to Rhonda Zugmier, 1700 Y St., 0646.
These letters will be placed in a book to be given to Bode at
his reception. Assistant director Carl Hutchison will serve as
interim director effective March 6 during a national search for
a permanent director.

11. Susan Nichols Reception March 10

Extended Education and Outreach will host a reception for Susan
Nichols from 2 to 4 p.m. March 10 at Extended Education and Outreach,
900 N. 22nd St., in honor of her many years of service to UNL. Nichols,
an office supervisor in EE&O Business Operations, is retiring after
working at UNL for 28 years.

12. Celebration of Graduate Student Work March 3

The annual Celebration of Graduate Student Work, featuring the
research and creative work of 25 graduate students from the
Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, and the Colleges
of Architecture and Education and Human Sciences, will be held from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 3 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center.

36. Girls' High School Basketball Championships on NET Television

The best girls' basketball teams in Nebraska invade Lincoln to
battle it out for the state championships in six different classes
with the finals telecast live across the state from the Bob Devaney
Sports Center on Saturday, March 4, on NET1 Channel 12. The
"Nebraska High School Girls' Basketball Championships" will begin
at 9:30 a.m. with the Class C-2 finals. The day-long coverage
continues with the Class D-2 championship game at 11:30 a.m. and
