 1. Parking Lot Closures Due to Maintenance

The following parking lots will be closed or partially closed on the
dates specified for maintenance. Lot closing signs will be posted at the
entrance of the lot 24-48 hours before the scheduled date of maintenance.
If weather delays the project a new date will be posted on the Parking and
Transit Services website shown below.
* June 29 - July 6 - Area 10, Hardin Hall north lot, patch and seal lot.
This parking area will be closed. Please park on the west and south sides
of Hardin Hall.
* July 5 - July 7 - Area 10, Anderson Hall, remove fuel storage tank. The
project will use 5 spaces.
* July 10 - July 14 - Area 10, Anderson Hall, patch and overlay parking
lot. Lot will be closed. Vehicles park in the 17/R Garage.

 2. New Parking Signs

During the next month, new parking signs will be installed throughout
City and East Campuses. These signs utilize a new parking lot designation
system. Visit the Parking and Transit Services website to view the Parking
Permit Use Table. For example, if you have been parking in a faculty/staff
non-reserved Area 10 parking lot you will now be parking in lots that are
marked Area A. If you have any questions regarding the new parking lot
designations contact the Parking and Transit Services Office at 472-1800.

 3. UHC Closed Tuesday, July 4

The University Health Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.
St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center's Telephone Line to Care will
be available at (402) 219-8050 if you need medical assistance.
Regular hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5.

 4. Gifts to student scholarship fund honor Griesen's service to UNL

Colleagues, students, alumni and friends have established the James V.
Griesen Student Leadership Award Fund to recognize and thank James Griesen,
who retires July 30 as vice chancellor for student affairs. All are
invited to help honor him by providing a tax deductible gift of any
amount to the fund.

10. Chess Legends in Lincoln

Russian Grandmaster Miron Sher plays 20 chess games at once, at 6 p.m.
Tuesday June 27, in the Nebraska Union. New York chess coach David
MacEnulty will present, "Why Chess Belongs in School," at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
June 28, in the LPS District Office, 5901 O Street. These events are
sponsored by the College of Education and Human Sciences and the Academic
Senate and are open to public.

12. Food Entrepreneur Assistance Program Seminar

The Food Processing Center is offering a one-day seminar for all
individuals interested in exploring the idea of starting a food
manufacturing business. The "From Recipe to Reality" seminar will
be offered on Aug. 18. Pre-registration is required and space is

13. NAFA Regional Workshop 2006

UNL and the Office of Undergraduate Studies will present the 2006 NAFA
Regional Workshops on July 20-21 at the Nebraska Union. This conference
will focus on new fellowship advisors with information and resources
about nationally competitive fellowships. Topics such as how to set up
and maintain a scholarship office, how to solicit administrative support,
how to identify and work with students, plus other topics will be
covered. An optional pre-conference Fulbright Workshop is scheduled on

14. All Youth Ages 14-18 Invited to National Technology Conference

All youth ages 14-18 are invited to attend the 2006 National 4-H
Technology Conference, July 24-27, on the UNL City and East Campuses.
Youth will select a technology focus area that is incorporated with
textiles, biotechnology, remote sensors, robotics, architecture,
engineering, crime scene investigation (CSI), animal science, or other
area. Registration fee is $300, which includes lodging, meals, and

15. Support Group for Adult Children with Aging Parents (ACAP)

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is facilitating a support group for
adult children with aging parents. The support group is designed to
provide an opportunity for participants to gain information, understanding,
and support from others experiencing similar situations concerning aging
parents. The group's next meeting is from noon to 1 p.m. June 29 at the
Nebraska Union (room to be posted). The meeting and participation in this

16. Nebraska Repertory Theatre Opens Season with Farce

The Nebraska Repertory Theatre opens its 39th season July 6 with Ken
Ludwig's Leading Ladies, a laugh-a-minute cross-dressing farce by the
writer of the popular Lend Me a Tenor. Additional performances rotate
with Local Wonders and Omnium Gatherum on July 7, 8, 22, 26, 27, Aug.
4, 5, all at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Lied Center's Johnny
Carson Theater. Tickets for faculty/staff are $18 available at the Lied
Center Ticket Office. Season passes, the best buy, are $40 for
faculty/staff.

17. Ancient Threads, Newly Woven: Recent Art From China's Silk Road

The Lentz Center for Asian Culture is now presenting its summer show,
"Ancient Threads, Newly Woven: Recent Art from China's Silk Road" through
Aug. 6. The Lentz Center is located in the lower level of the Hewit Place
building, across from the Lied Center for Performing Arts, at 1155 Q St.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

20. Nebraska High School Rodeo Finals on NET Television

There will be plenty of snortin' bulls and buckin' broncs stirring up
the dust at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings, Neb., as the top
high school rodeo competitors from across the state mount-up and rope,
ride and wrangle on the "Nebraska High School Rodeo Championships."
Taped the previous weekend, coverage of the finals will be broadcast
at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 on NET1 Channel 12 and in
high-definition on NET-HD.
