 3. Call for Nominations - The Nebraska Lecture Series

The UNL Research Council has issued a Call for Nominations for the 2007
Nebraska Lectures: Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series. In collaboration
with the Office of Research, the Research Council established this lecture
series in 2003. The purpose is to celebrate the significant accomplishments
made by UNL faculty, to foster communication among students and faculty in
different academic disciplines, and to present topics of public interest or
scientific and artistic discoveries in a nonspecialist format that will attract
a wide audience, including the local community and members of the legislature.

* Oct. 3 - "Getting Even" - The Women's Center will host a weekly
discussion of modern horror films within the framework of Carol J. Clover's
groundbreaking book, "Men, Women and Chainsaws" (on reserve at Love

10. Real Men, Real Depression Campaign Launched Oct. 4

In an attempt to reach men who may be experiencing depression and in need
of psychological consultation, a "Real Men, Real Depression" campaign will
be launched Oct. 4 at UNL. Dr. Aaron Rochlen, a researcher and counseling
psychology faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin will lead
the following sessions:
* Training Session, 3 p.m., in the Nebraska Union - primarily reserved for
faculty, clinicians and graduate students.
* Program Launch, 7 p.m., Love Library Auditorium.
Both events are free and sponsored by: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs;

11. National Depression Screening Day held Thursday Oct. 5

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) of the University Health Center
and the Employee Assistance Program are offering education and screenings
for a range of common emotional conditions in accordance with National
Depression Screening Day on Thursday, Oct. 5. The free, confidential
screenings will be held in the Nebraska Union from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and
in the East Campus Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for UNL students, faculty

17. Great Plains Book Prize Winner to Give Lecture on Buffalo Bill

Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize winner, Louis S. Warren, will present
the first fall Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q Street. The
title of the lecture is "Buffalo Bill's America: William Cody and the Wild West
Show in the Gilded Age". Warren is the W. Turrentine Jackson professor of
western U.S. history at the University of California, Davis, where he teaches
the history of the American West and environmental history. The lecture is free

Bruce Pauley, a visiting professor in the Department of History, will speak

concert at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Tyler White conducts. The program
will feature UNL faculty artist, Paul Barnes, piano, in Mozart's Piano Concerto
No. 17 in G major, K. 453.
* Friday, Sept. 29, the UNL Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball
Recital Hall.
* Sunday, Oct. 1, faculty artist, William McMullen, oboe, will give a recital
at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Performing with Professor McMullen will be
Catherine Herbener, piano; Julie Yoon, violin; Jonah Sirota, viola, and Gregory
Beaver, cello.
Tickets for these events will be available at the door approximately one hour
before the performance and are $5 general admission, $3 students and seniors.
