A scheduling change has cancelled the Jan. 4 Scarlet. The next Scarlet
publication is Jan. 11. Please turn in items for the Jan. 11 Scarlet by
noon on Jan. 4.

 2. Secure Connection Required for SIS+ Access

SIS+ users will soon be required to use an SSL secure connection to access the
student system. If you use SIS+ and are not already using QWS3271 Secure, you
will need to download and install the new QWS3270 Secure terminal emulation
software. Downloads are free and available at the URL below. Installation is
painless and instructions are on the site. Users of the older non-secure version
should convert as soon as possible. Wireless administrative users should convert
immediately. UNSCN will disable all non-secure access to the student system on
Feb. 18. For more information, contact the Help Desk.

 3. New Mileage Reimbursement Rate

Beginning Jan. 1, the mileage reimbursement rate will be $.485 per mile.
Use this rate when submitting for reimbursement on business travel
conducted on Jan. 1, 2007 and after.

 4. Subscribe to Receive Weekly Funding Announcements

Each week the Office of Research distributes an email list of funding
opportunities appropriate to UNL expertise. Funding Announcements is compiled
from the funding opportunities offered by federal funding agencies, private

 5. UAAD Mitten Drive for People's City Mission

New or gently used mittens, gloves, hats, and scarves in children's or
adult sizes, or personal care products are being collected by UAAD. The items
can be donated at three collection sites: 1) the UNOPA/UAAD joint meeting, 
11:45 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Devaney Sports Center; 2) Jan. 2 to Feb. 1 in the
Student Involvement Office, Room 200, Nebraska Union, or 3) Jan. 2 to Feb. 1
in the main lobby of the East Union (Union Crossing). If you have questions
or wish to have a collection box in your department or building, contact

 6. Nebraska Legislature Live on NET2

As the First Session of the 100th Legislature of Nebraska begins its activity
in Janaury, NET Television will be there to provide its annual live coverage
of the state's law-making body. Each day the Legislature is in session,
gavel-to-gavel live coverage of the Unicameral's floor activity throughout the
entire 90-day legislative session will be broadcast on NET2 Channel 17. Or you
can watch the floor action on your computer by logging on to the URL below
