 7. Call for New UCARE Project Proposals, AY 2007-08

The Office of Undergraduate Studies has announced a call for the next round
of UCARE proposals for the academic year 2007-08. The application deadline
is Feb. 9. Applications are available on the UCARE website below. For more

 8. Secure Connection Required for SIS+ Access

SIS+ users will soon be required to use an SSL secure connection to access the
student system. If you use SIS+ and are not already using QWS3271 Secure, you
will need to download and install the new QWS3270 Secure terminal emulation
software. Downloads are free and available at the URL below. Installation is
painless and instructions are on the site. Users of the older non-secure
version  should convert as soon as possible. Wireless administrative users
should convert  immediately. UNSCN will disable all non-secure access to the
student system on  Feb. 18. For more information, contact the Help Desk.

10. UAAD seeking nominations for the Donaldson and Oldt Awards

UAAD is now accepting nominations for the 2007 Carl A. Donaldson Award
for Excellence in Management and the Floyd S. Oldt Award for Exceptional
Service to the University. These awards are presented annually to
Management (non-faculty) staff at the UAAD Annual Founder's Day meeting
on Feb. 28. All nomination materials are due by Feb. 2. Nomination

11. Homesteading Reconsidered Symposium Call for Papers

The "Homesteading Reconsidered" symposium will be held on May 17-19 at
the Nebraska Union. This symposium will examine homesteading and its
legacy from all angles, review recent and forthcoming scholarship,
probe conflicting interpretations, and encourage all participants to develop
their own perspectives on the historical and ecological significance of
homesteading. Interested contributors should submit proposals/abstracts
of 150-200 words with a brief resume by Jan. 12 More information and the

17. 'A Guide to the National Grasslands' Topic of Olson Seminar

The history and background of America's National Grasslands will be the
subject of the Jan. 17 Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies.
Francis Moul, an environmental historian from Lincoln, will present
"A Guide to the National Grasslands," from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Great
Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St., Hewit Place. Moul's talk and a 3 p.m.
reception at the museum are free and open to the public. Booksigning to
follow the talk.
