 1. Parking Lot Closures Due to Maintenance

The following list of parking lots will be closed or partially closed on the
dates specified for maintenance. Lot closing signs will be posted at the
entrance of the lot 24-48 hours before the scheduled date of maintenance. If
weather delays the project a new date will be posted on the Parking and Transit
Services website at the URL below.
* June 27 - Memorial Mall inside lot, seal coat second half of lot. 
Partial closing.
* July 2 - Judging Pavilion, seal coat. Lot closed.
* July 6 - Park Apartments, crack seal and seal coat. Partial closing.

 2. Kids Invent Toys! Summer Camp

Kids Invent Toys! is an entrepreneurial learning camp held on the UNL
campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily Monday through Friday. Grades 3-5
will be July 30 to Aug. 3, and grades 6-8 will be Aug. 6 to 17. The
registration deadline is July 13, and cost is $195 per child. For more

 3. Limited Submission-NSF STEP Program

NSF has announced a limited submission: Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program (STEP). The deadline is Aug. 7.
Letter of Intent is optional. Full proposal is due Sept. 18. An institution
that awards baccalaureate degrees is allowed to submit only one Type 1
proposal, or to be part of only one consortium submitting a Type 1 proposal.
There are no restrictions on the number of Type 2 proposals that an
individual or organization may submit. If you are interested in submitting
a Type 1 proposal, contact Dr. Kimberly Andrews Espy at 472-2851, no later

 4. Food Entrepreneur Seminar

The Food Processing Center is offering a one-day seminar for all individuals
interested in exploring the idea of starting a food manufacturing business.
The "From Recipe to Reality" seminar will be offered on Aug. 10.
Pre-registration is required and space is limited. The registration deadline

 5. Tom Workman Farewell Reception June 29

Join the Student Involvement staff from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 29
in the Nebraska Union to say farewell to Dr. Tom Workman. Workman
and his family will be relocating to Houston, Texas, and he will
be teaching this fall at the University of Houston-Downtown Campus.

 6. Farewell Reception for Reece Summers

The Center for Great Plains Studies will host a farewell reception for Reece
Summers, curator of the Great Plains Art Museum, at 3:30 p.m. July 6 at the
Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St. Summers has been with the Museum since
2001. The Center invites the UNL community and other friends to express your
farewell, view the current exhibition, and enjoy ice cream and cake.

 7. Jazz in June Garden Tour

The Jazz in June Garden tour will begin at 6 p.m. June 26 on the east
side of Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery. Emily Casper, a landscape
architect, and Andrea McGinn of Landscape Services, will give a tour
of the planting project around the Osborne Athletic Complex and
Hawks Championship Center. If you have questions, contact Susan

 8. Mad City Money (for teens) July 24 & 28

Mad City Money is an interactive money experiment that lets teens experience
life in the future. Two sessions in Lincoln will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
July 24 and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 28 in the East Union. To attend
this free interactive seminar your teen must be a member of University of
Nebraska Federal Credit Union or one of the other participating credit

 9. Support Group for Adult Children with Aging Parents (ACAP)

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is facilitating a support group for adult
children with aging parents. The support group is designed to provide an
opportunity for participants to gain information, understanding, and support
from others experiencing similar situations concerning aging parents. The 
group's next meeting is from noon to 1 p.m. June 28 at the Nebraska Union
(room to be posted). The meeting and participation in this support group is
open to all interested faculty and staff. For further details contact EAP

10. Quilt Exhibition Features Recycling and Resourcefulness

A new International Quilt Study Center exhibition opens on July 2 at the
Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery. "Recycling and Resourcefulness; Quilts
of the 1930s," features quilts of the Great Depression. A gallery talk
will be presented by curator Christina Brooks at 5:30 p.m. on July 6, with
a reception to follow. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Admission is free and open to the public.

11. La Vie en Rose and Private Fears in Public Places open at the Ross

* La Vie en Rose (June 29-July 26): This French drama explores the often
troubled life of singer Edith Piaf. Starring Marion Cotillard and Gerard
Depardieu.
* Private Fears in Public Places (June 29-July 5): Nominated for eight
Cesar awards in its native France, Private Fears in Public Places is an
intelligent, adult look at loneliness in the 21st century. Directed by
French master Alain Resnais, the film examines the interrelated lives
of six main characters who are trying desperately but failing at making
real, long-lasting connections.

12. "History Detectives" Investigate 1776 Currency Found in Omaha

Between the pages of a book forgotten on a shelf for more than 15 years, an
Omaha family found a puzzling $6 bill dated Feb. 17, 1776. But, is the bill
real - or perhaps real fakery?  Sleuths from the PBS television series
"History Detectives" visited Nebraska to search for clues connected to the
intriguing currency that is owned by a mother-daughter pair from Omaha. Their
findings will be revealed on "History Detectives" airing at 8 p.m. July 2
on NET1 and in high definition on NET-HD.

13. High School Rodeo Championships on NET Television

The top high school rodeo competitors from across the state have roped,
wrangled and ridden throughout the year to earn the qualifying points and
the honor to make it to the "Nebraska High School Rodeo Championships."
Taped June 23 at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings, coverage of the
finals will be broadcast at noon July 1 on NET1 Channel 12 and in
high-definition on NET-HD.
