Use Sakai for your e-Teaching Sakai is an online Collaboration and Learning Environment which supports teaching and learning, group collaboration, portfolios and research collaboration. As an alternative to Blackboard, Sakai not only provides a set of generic collaboration tools, but also provides augmented tools for teaching and portfolios. UNL has been running the Sakai pilot since the summer of 2006, and all faculty are welcome to use Sakai for your future classes. Faculty Sought for Peer Review of Teaching Project How does one document, make visible, and assess the careful, difficult, and intentional scholarly work entailed in planning and teaching a course? The UNL Peer Review of Teaching project is seeking faculty to participate in next year's (2007-2008) project where you will learn how to document your teaching and involve you in discussions of student learning and assessment. Each participant receives a $1000 stipend. Summer Bicycle Rentals - UNL Campus Rec Center Summer is a great time to start commuting by bike. The Bike Shop at the Campus Rec Center rents bicycles by the day, week and semester. All rentals include a helmet and bike lock. They have single speed and mountain bike models available. Stop by The Bike Shop to rent a bike for daily commuting or a great weekend ride or race. HTML, Access, LiveCycle, Excel, Word workshops Information Services provides workshops to faculty and staff at UNL. Annual Maintenance Closedown - UNL Campus Rec Center The Campus Rec Center will conduct its annual maintenance closedown from May 7 to May 13. The facility will be closed to all activities. Members should remove any locker items which they may need by 5:30 p.m. May 6. No one will be permitted to enter the building beyond the main office during the closedown. The Campus Rec computer system will also be undergoing upgrades during this time, so limited transactions will be available. The main office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 (phone calls will be answered Monday-Thursday) and the Intramural Sports office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For exercise/Rec users, the Activities Building on East Campus will be open for use from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 7-11; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 12; and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 13. The Campus Rec Center will re-open for its summer schedule at 6 a.m. May 14. A presentation will be held at 4 p.m. Dr. Howe has served as Associate to the Chancellor since December 1989 and has been with UNL for 38 years. Photography Exhibit, On the Land by Joel Sartore at State Museum The exhibit, "On the Land," will open May 1 at the State Museum (Morrill Hall). It features 38 photographs by the Nebraska native and National Geographic Magazine contributing photographer Joel Sartore, as well as compelling exhibit commentary from Lincolnite Dan Semrad, environmentalist and investment advisor. Shown in the Museum's Cooper Gallery, "On The Land" examines environmental stories from around the globe. The museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. Admission for UNL faculty and staff is free. Admission for the general public is $5 for adults. $3 for children 5-18 years of age, and children 4 and under are free. The family rate (up to two adults w/children) is $10. Opening Reception for "The Anatomy of Charley Friedman." The Sheldon welcomes art lovers to an opening reception for "The Anatomy of Charley Friedman," from 5 to 7 p.m. May 11. This is the first solo museum show for New York-based and Lincoln native Charley Friedman. His work has attracted critical attention, and was featured in a New York Times review on Jan. 28. Spring Football Game Recap on Big Red Wrap-Up on NET Television The annual Red-White Spring game offers a preview of what football fans can expect from the Huskers come September.
