 1. University Employee Benefits Enrollment (NUFlex 1)
The annual University Employee Benefits Enrollment (NUFlex) period will run
Nov. 19 through Dec. 7, 2007 with changes going into effect on Jan. 1, 2008.
This is a time when employees may make changes in their benefits program to meet
their personal needs, sign up for the Health Care Reimbursement account, and
complete the non smoker discount form. This year all employee benefits may be
added, changed or deleted depending on the employee's requirements. Review your
current Benefits programs to see if any adjustments will be necessary. If you have
questions about the annual enrollment, contact the Benefits Office at 472-2600.
You will be able to complete your NUFlex annual enrollment electronically through
Employee Self Service at the Web site listed below. This on-line enrollment is
fast and convenient and may be used in place of your NUFlex Change and Smoker
Designation forms. If you have any problems accessing Employee Self Service,
contact Beth Benson at 472-2100.

 2. Hazadous Waste Collection Tags Due to EHS by Dec. 12
In preparation for the holiday shut-down (Dec. 24-Jan. 1), EHS asks
that you submit your hazardous materials collection tags to them for
those items that you need to have removed from your area on or before
Dec. 12. Requests received after that date will be processed by EHS

 3. Katrina Relief Service Trip, Trip Leaders Needed
Come be a part of the rebuilding efforts in Waveland, Miss., an area
affected by Hurricane Katrina. Student Involvement is looking for trip
leaders to lead reflection, work groups, and provide leadership
throughout the Jan. 2-10 trip. For more information contact Julie in

 4. NSF IGERT Intent to Submit due Jan. 14
Faculty are encouraged to submit an online Intent to Submit form for
the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT)
program. Although the 2008 call has not yet been released, they anticipate
the program solicitation will be similar to the 2007 version. The program
allows UNL to submit up to four pre-proposals as either the primary or
sub-award recipient. The intent to submit deadline is Jan. 14, 2008. For

after 20 years with UNL.

17. Borges and the Kabbalah: A Pre-Text to the Core
Dr. Saul Sosnowski, professor and associate provost for International
Affairs, University of Maryland will explore the work of Jorge Luis
Borges, 1899-1986, a world renowned Argentinian writer, at 7 p.m. Nov.
29 at the Center for Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q Street. Borges
displayed a strong interest in Judaism and a form of Jewish mysticism
called Kabbalahin in the story "The Aleph." This event is sponsored
by the Norman and Bernice Harris Center for Judaic Studies and the
Department of Modern Languages. It is free and open to the public.

21. King Corn opens Friday at the Ross
Opening Friday: King Corn (Nov. 30-Dec. 13): King Corn is a feature
documentary about two friends who move to the heartland to learn where their
food comes from. With the help of friendly neighbors, genetically modified
seeds, and powerful herbicides, they plant and grow a bumper crop of America's
most-productive, most-subsidized grain on one acre of Iowa soil. But when they
try to follow their pile of corn into the food system, what they find raises
troubling questions about how we eat-and how we farm.

of jazz favorites including "Far East Suite" composed and arranged by

and Dr. Anthony Bushard narrates. Dr. Paul Haar directs Jazz Ensemble I
while Jeffrey Richmond directs Jazz Ensemble II. The performance is in
