 7. "Ethanol: Fueling Debate" is Next Thompson Forum Lecture

The next lecture in the E.N. Thompson Forum series, the inaugural Charles and
Linda Wilson Dialogue on Domestic Issues, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at
the Lied Center. The Wilson Dialogue is designed to present two sides of an
issue of critical interest to Nebraska, the nation and the world. This year's
topic is "Ethanol: Fueling Debate," and the speakers are Douglas Durante of
the Clean Fuels Development Coalition and Jerry Taylor of the Cato Institute.
Bill Lambrecht, Washington Bureau Chief for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch will
moderate. As with the opening lecture, tickets are in high demand. If you
have tickets to the lecture but cannot attend, they ask that you return those
tickets to the Lied Center as soon as possible so they can be redistributed.
A limited number of tickets are available at the Lied Center, the Nebraska
Union and Westfield Gateway. If you cannot get a ticket now, keep checking
with the Lied Center, 472-4747, for ticket availability. You are encouraged
to come to the Lied Center the night of the lecture to check for last-minute

"Repair of Chemotherapy-induced DNA Damage; Opportunities for Modulating
Drug Resistance and Sensitivity," will be presented by John J. Turchi, Ph.D.,

Andrew Torget from the University of Virginia, will make a digital presention
on "Slavery on the Edge of the American Empire: Texas and Mexico, 1820-1845,"

14. Medievalism: The Middle Ages in Modern England

Michael Alexander suggests that Walter Scott imagined the past in settings
which owe more to history than to fantasy. The lecture will draw its
illustrations from the texts of Shakespeare, Milton, Scott, Keats, Hardy and
