 9. Tree Planting Ceremony to Commemorate 1997 Storm
Join UNL Landscape Services in planting a tree to commemorate the
10th anniversary of the snow storm that hit Lincoln on Oct. 25-26,
1997. The storm destroyed or damaged approximately 1,100 trees on both
campuses. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Maxwell

10. Campus Rec New Facilities Plans Open House
UNL Campus Recreation will host a series of open house sessions to unveil
preliminary architectural plans for a new recreation center on East Campus,
plus options for a  major renovation and expansion of the Campus Rec Center
on City Campus. The open house will be held Nov. 7 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in
the Great Plains Room in the Nebraska East Union; and from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
in the Regency Suite of the Nebraska Union.
The open house will include blueprint drawings of preliminary architectural
designs, a multimedia slideshow, and a question and answer session. All
interested individuals of the University community, including students,
faculty and staff, are encouraged to attend the gatherings. For more

Sheri Fritz, Willa Cather professor of geosciences and biological sciences,
will explain how her research on mud that accumulates in the bottom of
lakes holds clues to the history of the lake as well as the surrounding
land and climate in the fall Nebraska Lecture, "Through Layers of Mud and
Time: A Long-Term Perspective on Environmental Change," at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 1

43. Two Husker Volleyball Matches on NET Television
NET Television will broadcast two Nebraska Volleyball matches in the
coming week, beginning with a Husker defense of their home court when
the Missouri Tigers invade the NU Coliseum at 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Then
NET Television follows the Huskers as they take to the road to
attempt to tame the Kansas State Wildcats down in Manhattan at 7 p.m.
Nov. 3. Both matches will be televised live on NET1 Channel 12 and
