 2. Flu Shots Clinics

The University Health Center will be holding flu shot clinics for UNL
students, faculty and staff. Flu vaccinations cost $20 and payment by cash or
check is required at the time of the vaccination. For those with Blue Cross
Blue Shield insurance, a claim will be filed for them by UHC staff for possible
reimbursement (bring your insurance information with you to the clinic),
however you will still need to pay at time of shot. Flu vaccinations are also
available by appointment at UHC for those unable to attend a clinic.

 3. Homecoming Parade Street Closings

This Friday, Oct. 12, streets around campus will be closing for the UNL
Homecoming Parade. Streets closing from 5:30 to 7 p.m. include: Vine from
14th to 16th Streets, 16th Street from Vine to R St., R Street from 16th
to 12th as well as the loop in front of the Lied Center. The parade will
start at 6 p.m.

 4. Big 12 Faculty Fellowship

The Big 12 Faculty Fellowship program is intended to stimulate scholarly
exchanges with Big 12 institutions. The program offers faculty the opportunity
to travel to member institutions to collaborate on projects and research.
The deadline for submitting proposals is Dec. 1. The maximum fellowship
award per applicant is $2,500.

 6. Caremark Prescription Drug iBenefit Report

In early October, Caremark, the university's prescription drug administrator,
will mail the first annual iBenefit Report to qualifying insureds enrolled
in the university's medical insurance plan. The iBenefit report is a
consumer report that generates a personalized summary of your family's
prescription history and associated recommendations for future purchases.
It highlights the value of your prescription benefit, empowers you to make
cost effective choices by showing a variety of options available to you,
and provides positive reinforcement for making cost-effective healthcare
choices. The report will be distributed to the home address in individual
personalized, confidential envelopes to employees, spouses, and dependent
children age 19 and over who have a total prescription cost of $100 or more
from September 2006 through August 2007. More information is available from

 7. Need help with a data entry project or with transcription of audio

The Bureau of Sociological Research (BOSR) at UNL has a trained and
professional staff available to assist researchers and departments with a
variety of data collection needs (telephone interviews, mail surveys, Web
surveys, focus groups, data entry, transcription, etc.). They currently have
staff available to work on data entry projects and transcribe audio tapes and
digital files. As a non-profit organization, BOSR is a cost effective resource

 8. Convocations Committee Seeks Applications for Funding

The Faculty Senate Convocations Committee seeks funding applications for
Spring/Summer term speakers. Grant requests most likely to be funded will be
for $500 to $750. Rarely will requests beyond $750 be considered. Generally
speaking, no department will be funded more than once per term although the
Committee reserves the right to do so should the funding allow. The application

11. Watmore retires after 31 years with UNL

A retirement reception will be held for Sandy Watmore from 3:30 to
5 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Harper Dining Services Building. Watmore has spent
most of her 31 years in UNL's Business and Finance; as the liasion for
the Exclusive Pouring Contract and with Stores, UNL Vending Services,
and Transportation Services. During the last several years, she has been
the Residence Life Services supervisor for Harper/Schramm/Smith/Village

12. Barbara Weinstein to give lecture on Academic Freedom Oct. 11

The Sixth Annual Carroll R. Pauley Memorial Lecture will be presented
by Professor Barbara Weinstein, president of the American Historical

Weinstein will speak on Academic Freedom in the Age of Homeland Security,

The Charles and Linda Wilson Dialogue on Domestic Issues is the next lecture
in the E.N. Thompson Forum series. It will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the
