 1. Severe Weather Awareness Week is Approaching
UNL will join Lincoln/Lancaster County Emergency Management in testing all
tornado-warning systems at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 9. UNL's tornado
warning system is generally tested the first Wednesday of every month. For
April only, this test will occur during the second week in conjunction with
Severe Weather Awareness Week. Such a drill may cause disruption to classes
and work. However, with severe and dangerous weather being common to Nebraska,
they want to be diligent to test the systems, which support a safe environment
for our campus. To order new tornado posters for buildings, contact Colleen
Huls via email at chuls1@unl.edu. When ordering posters, provide the building
name and the number of posters needing printed for that building. The official
UNL Tornado Warning Policy can be found at the Web site listed below.

 9. Chancellor's GLBT Awards presented April 9
Chancellor Harvey Perlman will present the annual awards for Outstanding
Contributions to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community at a
reception and ceremony at 3:30 p.m. April 9 in the Nebraska Union. These
awards recognize outstanding efforts by an individual or group to create
an inclusive, respectful and safe climate for the GLBT community at UNL.
Winner of the faculty/staff award is Debbie Krahmer, assistant professor
of Libraries and Digital Media Librarian. Winners of the student award are
Amanda Garrett, doctoral student in Educational Psychology, and Greg
Gifford, doctoral student in Agricultural Leadership and Leadership
Studies.

An open house reception to honor Marie Dvorak, hosted by the Office of

12. Causes of Great Plains Droughts Topic of April Olson Seminar
Drought is a ubiquitous feature of the Great Plains. In human history, it has
been as short as a few weeks or months or prolonged over several years. The
prehistoric record indicates something quite different, however -- so-called
"megadroughts" that persist for decades or longer. That history will be the
subject of the next Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies. UNL
geoscientist Robert Oglesby will present "Causes of Drought in the Great
Plains," from 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 9 at the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St.
The seminar and a 3 p.m. reception in the museum are free and open to the public.

13. Common Cause president to speak on campaign finance reform
Bob Edgar, national president and CEO of Common Cause, will speak on campaign
finance reform at 7 p.m. April 2 at the College of Journalism and Mass
Communications. The lecture is free and open to the public. Common Cause

in national and state elections.

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications will host a free video
storytelling workshop hosted by CBS News photojournalist/producer Les Rose
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12. Rose, a Lincoln native and UNL graduate
student, has led storytelling workshops at the Poynter Institute and
National Press Photographers Association. The main emphasis of the workshop

27. International photo, art and poetry exhibition
UNL students who study abroad will exhibit their photos, art and poetry
at an exhibit in the Haymarket on from 6 to 10 p.m. April 4 in the
Creamery Building at 701 P St. The exhibition will include artistic
work from study in London, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Kosovo.
The UNL Office of International Affairs and the College of Journalism
and Mass Communications are sponsors of the event. Every year

* April 1, 7:30 p.m., the annual April Fool's Concert has been cancelled.
* April 3, 7:30 p.m., students in the Organ Studio will give a recital in
Kimball Recital Hall.

for Performing Arts. Tickets are $32 and $28 for adults, and $16, and $14

33. Texas Tech/Nebraska Baseball Live on NET Television
Making the trek north from Lubbock, the Texas Tech Red Raiders take to Hawks
Field at Haymarket Park in Lincoln to face Mike Anderson's Huskers when
"Nebraska Baseball" airs live at 2 p.m. April 5 on NET1 Channel 12 and in
high-definition on NET-HD. Calling the play-by-play action between the
two Big 12 Conference foes will be sportscaster Larry Punteney, with Adrian
Fiala providing color commentary. The Texas Tech vs. Nebraska broadcast is the
first of a nine-game collegiate baseball/softball series on NET Television
this spring.
