Jr. Blackshirts-registration now open Registration for the 2008 Jr. Blackshirts season is now open at UNL Campus Recreation. Jr. Blackshirts is a youth program that offers recreational activities in a child care setting for children ages 2-12 years during Husker home football games (while their parents/guardians attend the game). Pre-registration is required and the price is $20 per child per game. The first game vs. Western Michigan is Aug. 30 and the registration deadline is Aug. 27. Space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Reception for Edward Schmidt The College of Arts and Sciences will hold a reception honoring Associate Dean Edward Schmidt. Remarks at 4 p.m. Schmidt has served the Dean's Office and College for 12 1/2 years and will returning to the faculty full time in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Open House The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will hold an Open House, Celebrating Lifelong Learning, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Champions Club west of Memorial Stadium. Savage Grace and Up the Yangtze opening Friday at the Ross * Savage Grace (Aug 8-14) - A dramatization of the shocking Barbara Daly Baekeland murder case - a bloody crime which caused a stir on both sides of the Atlantic and remains one of the most memorable American Tragedies. Savage Grace follows the beautiful and charismatic Barbara Daly, who married above her class to Brooks Baekeland, heir to the Bakelite plastics fortune. Their only child is a failure in his father's eyes, and as he matures and becomes increasingly close to his lonely mother, the seeds for tragedy are sown. * Up the Yangtze (Aug 8-14) - The Yangtze is about to be transformed by the biggest hydroelectric dam in history. At the river's edge-a young woman says goodbye to her family as the floodwaters rise towards their small homestead. The Three Gorges Dam - contested symbol of the Chinese economic miracle-provides the epic backdrop for Up the Yangtze, a dramatic feature documentary on life inside modern China. http://www.theross.org ************************************************************************* 10. Final NRT Destinations - Kaleidoscope: Spinning Into Focus NRT closes out its Destinations series at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Studio Theatre, Temple Building, with a one-woman show by Chicago actress Diane Dorsey entitled Kaleidoscope: Spinning Into Focus based on the four elements of her journey through life.
