Holiday Shutdown 2008 Looking ahead to the 2008 Holiday shutdown, employees will be required to use two days of vacation leave during this time period. * Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 (Holiday Closedown) * Thursday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Holiday) * Friday, Dec. 26 (Holiday Closedown) * Monday, Dec. 29 (Holiday Closedown) * Tuesday, Dec. 30 (Holiday Closedown) * Wednesday, Dec. 31 (Holiday Closedown taken as vacation leave or leave without pay) * Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 (New Year's Day Holiday) * Friday, Jan. 2 (Holiday Closedown taken as vacation leave or leave without pay) Staff will return to work on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. Holiday Shutdown Notification & Procedures When leaving your room for the holidays, turn off all lights, computers and peripherals, office equipment and appliances. Make sure windows and doors are locked and close any drapes or blinds. Set your thermostat at 68 degrees or less. Turn off all lab equipment and close fume hood sashes. During the Holiday Shutdown (Dec. 24 to Jan. 4) most UNL buildings will have reduced temperature control to save energy. Expect your room to be uncomfortable beginning the evening of Dec. 23. Take a moment to confirm that your permanent address information is correct. You may update your address information through the Firefly Employee Self Service website or through your Payroll office. Deadline Extended for Winter Alternative Service Break The deadline to submit an application for our January 2009 trip to Galveston, Texas, to help with Hurricane Ike relief as been extended until Dec. 12. Volunteers Needed for 2009 Nebraska Science Bowls About 200 volunteers are needed to help run the 15th Annual Nebraska Regional High School Science Bowl on Feb. 7, and the 6th Annual Middle School Science Bowl on Jan. 31. Both will take place at the Nebraska Union. A record number of high school and middle school teams will compete in these events for a free trip to nationals. They need time keepers, rules judges, science judges, score keepers, and moderators for the competition. More information is available at the Web site listed below.
