 1. EAP Moves
After 18 years in the Lewis Syford House at 700 North 16th Street, UNL's
Employee Assistance Program is changing its location. The Wells Fargo
Center at 1248 "O" Street, Suite 960, will be the new location as of
April 1. The "P" Street entrance to Wells Fargo is located just two blocks
south of Love Library. Parking will be available in the Rampark Parking
Garage. This location will continue to insure confidentiality for UNL
employees and their family members. Their phone number, 472-3107, will
remain the same. They will continue their efforts to address a wide variety
of personal and work related concerns of our clients.

 2. Make Your Research Easier
A pilot program will begin on April 1 to provide electronic copies of articles
from journals housed in the LDRF (the Libraries storage facility for lesser
used materials) to graduate and undergraduate students. Articles will be
scanned and delivered electronically to students via their ILLiad accounts.
They scan the article for you. Journal volumes can still be loaned at the
users request. Pilot program ends during the summer and will be reviewed for
possible continuation in Fall of 2008. Any questions, contact the ILL Office

 3. Want to Fly on an Army Helicopter?
UNL Army ROTC has a limited number of open seats for UNL faculty and staff.
The Army ROTC Department will be conducting its annual air assault training
session on April 3. The Nebraska Army National Guard is providing helicopters
to airlift the cadets from the State Fair Grounds to the Doane College campus,
where they will conduct a series of tactical missions. This year there are
open seats available to faculty/staff interested in riding in an Army
Blackhawk helicopter and follow the cadets as they conduct their missions.
The lab begins at 3 p.m. and will conclude at approximately 6 p.m. (weather
permitting). If you are interested in participating, e-mail Captain Dan
Behn at dbehn2@unl.edu with your name, department and contact information.
Submit your name no later than 4 p.m. on March 27. They will draw names at
noon, March 28 and make notifications the same day. The winners will be
required to provide their social security number to be added to the flight
list.

 4. Convocations Committee Applications Deadline Date
The deadline date for submitting applications to the Convocations
Committee to bring in guest speakers during the fall semester is

 6. National Endowment for the Humanities - Challenge Grants
The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced a call for proposals
for Challenge Grants (regular NEH and Digital Humanities Initiative). The
deadline is May 1. Organizational limit: an institution may apply for both a
regular challenge grant and a Digital Humanities Initiative (DHI) challenge
grant at the annual May deadline, but an institution may hold or have pending
only one NEH challenge grant and one DHI challenge grant at a time (a DHI
challenge grant may be held concurrently with a regular challenge grant). If
you are interested in developing a proposal for an NEH or a DHI challenge
grant, complete a notification of intent to submit form at the Web site below

 7. SPSS WARNING: Bug in SPSS v16 Software May Cause Data Loss
If a user exits SPSS v16.x without explicitly saving open large data
files first, such files appear to save, yet are lost. Workaround:
Always save data files explicitly via File->Save or the save toolbar
button before exiting SPSS v16. The issue will be addressed by SPSS
Inc. with their next hot fix. If you have questions, contact the

The UNL Research Fair, April 1-3, celebrates research and creative activity
with three days of events for faculty, staff and students in the Nebraska

13. Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium
This year's Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium will focus on the
severe weather climatology of the central plains. It will be held from

14. CCSW Awards ceremony March 26
Chancellor Harvey Perlman will present the annual awards for Outstanding
Contribution to the Status of Women at 3:30 p.m. March 26 in the Wick
Alumni Center. Award recipients this year are the Department of Geosciences
Faculty and Tamy Burnett, a doctoral student in English. The University
Chorale, directed by Rhonda Fuelberth, will perform at the reception.

Dr. Shawn Parry-Giles, University of Maryland, will deliver a short talk on
"The News Media as Arbiters of Political Authenticity," at 3:30 p.m. March 26

The public grand opening of the new Quilt Museum will be from 1:30 to

35. The Comedy of Scott Blakeman
Scott Blakeman will deliver some contemporary Jewish Humor at 7 p.m. March
27 in room 25 College of Business Administration. Blakeman comes from New
York and is slated as "The top political comedian working in New York today"
(NBC). He has made more than 30 national television appearances, including
Comedy Central's Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, and co-host of several political
humor segments on NBC's "Sunday Today." Blakeman co-founded Standup for Peace:

38. School of Music Events: March 25-March 31
* March 25 at 7:30 p.m., a wide variety of chamber ensembles will
perform in the UNL ChamberFest recital in Kimball Recital Hall.
* March 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, UNL Honors ChamberFest
will feature student winners of the 2008 "Play with the Chiaras" Competition.
* March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall, Room 119, Student
Chamber Brass Ensembles free and open to the public.
* March 28, all day in Westbrook Recital Hall, Midwest ClariFest.
Clarinet students of all ages participate in a day to celebrate teaching
and learning the clarinet. At 7:30 p.m. featured guest artist Nathan
Williams will give a clarinet recital in Kimball Recital Hall. The
concert is free and open to the public.
* March 29, 7:30 p.m., faculty artist Christopher Marks will give an
organ recital in Kimball Recital Hall. The program will feature works by
20th century New York composer and organist Seth Bingham and celebrates
the release of Marks' new recording of Bingham's works on a Raven CD which
will be available at the recital.
* March 30 at 7:30 p.m., Jazz Combos will give a recital in Westbrook
Recital Hall, Room 119. Dr. Darryl White and graduate student Christopher
Barrick conduct the combos. Free and open to the public.
* March 31, all day, Flute Festival Day. That evening at 7:30 p.m. in
Kimball Recital Hall, the Flute Festival Day Concert will feature the UNL
Flute ensembles, trios and quartets, the UNL Flute Choir, conducted by
Enrico Sartori and the UNL Flute Festival Flute Choir conducted by John
Bailey. Free and open to the public.
Unless otherwise noted tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for
students and seniors and will be available at the door approximately one
hour before the performance. Additional information and registration can

39. New Exhibit Opens at the Kruger Gallery of Miniature Interiors
"Technology's Impact on Design," the Kruger Collection's new exhibition
opens on March 28 in Architecture Hall. An opening reception in
Architecture Hall will follow a 4 p.m. address by Constance Adams,
a space architect of synthesis int'l USA at the Mary Riepma Ross
Media Arts Center.
