Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Program - Funding Opportunity The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Program CFDA 84.019A has announced a funding opportunity with a deadline of Dec. 3. The research project must focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, East Central Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its territories). Dare to Care 2008 Dare to Care is UNL's campus-wide competitive food drive. This competition is open to any group, whether it be a faculty group, student group, or an RSO. Journalism College covers Election 2008 on Nov. 4 The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is planning an extensive night of converged election coverage. More than 70 students in radio, television, online and print journalism have been gearing up to cover Election 2008. The student participation in election coverage is the capstone in a semester of election-focused events. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 and will continue until about midnight. Students will produce and host a live newscast on Channel 21 with reports streaming to NewsNetNebraska, the college's student-produced multimedia news service, and 90.3 KRNU. Native American Heritage Month Celebration Join OASIS and UNITE as they celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a lecture by Dr. Darryl Tonemah at 3 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room. WGS Colloquium - Dorothy Allison, Oct. 30 Award-winning author Dorothy Allison, will give a talk titled "Context and Contradiction: Standing in a Place I Did Not Know How to Imagine" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Nebraska Union auditorium. She will discuss gender and sexuality and the lack of change for women and queers in the last 30 years. 'Bird Brain' Lecture Oct. 30 When someone uses the idiom "bird brain," what comes to mind might not reflect the phrase's true meaning. During the fall Nebraska Lecture, UNL behavioral ecologist Alan C. Kamil will discuss how birds use their cognitive abilities to survive at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Nebraska Union auditorium. Schlesinger Professorship for Social Justice Lecture Schlesinger Assistant Professor of Social Justice, Ari Kohen, will deliver a lecture titled, "A Case of Moral Heroism: Sympathy, Personal Identification and Mortality in Rwanda" at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the the Great Plains Art Gallery, 1155 Q Street. Kohen is also an assistant professor of Political Science at UNL. He is the author of "In Defense of Human Rights", published Spring 2007. Sorensen Policy Seminar: National Climate Change Legislation and Opportunities for Nebraska will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Nebraska Union auditorium. The forum will explore climate change legislation that will likely be considered by the new Congress in 2009, and examine the opportunities and challenges it will present to Nebraska. Nez Perce Country: Our Beloved Homeland W. Otis Halfmoon will present "Nez Perce Country: Our Beloved Homeland" at 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in Love Library Room 110. Halfmoon, (Nez Perce), National Park Service, worked as a consultant on the Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country exhibit and is a descendant of Heyuum Pahkit Timna (Grizzly Bear with Five Hearts), a Nez Perce Chief who met the Corps of Discovery on their return journey. He describes Nez Perce life before Lewis and Clark, and the untold stories and the impact of this small part of tribal history.
