 3. APC hearing July 30
The APC hearing on proposed budget reductions is 2 to 5 p.m. July 30 at
the Nebraska Union. The task of the APC is to review the Chancellor's
proposed cuts in light of their probable impact on the university's
academic mission and approve them or suggest other ways of meeting the
budget reduction goal. To accomplish this task, the APC welcomes
information from all who may be affected by the proposed reductions. A
schedule and procedures are at the site below. Another hearing is Sept. 18.

 4. Memorial Service for Dr. Donald Gregory
A memorial service for Donald Gregory, director of the Division of General
Studies, and associate professor, Department of English, will be held at
1:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium, Sheldon Memorial Art
Gallery. The memorial will be hosted by Dr. Gregory's family. All are
welcome.

 5. Rick Waldren Retirement Reception Aug. 7
A retirement reception for Rick Waldren, Agronomy and Horticulture, will
be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Cottonwood Room, Nebraska East
Union. Waldren has been a professor at UNL for 35 years. Join the
department in honoring him for his service to UNL. Refreshments will be
served.

11. Hillestad Gallery Friends seeking items for annual fundraiser
Textiles, Clothing and Design's Hillestad Gallery support group, The
Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, will hold its annual
benefit garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at 2925 Apple St., south
of East Campus. This event is the one of the group's most important
activities and raises funds to underwrite exhibitions and related gallery
events. The Friends are seeking donations to the sale, which may be
brought to the TCD office, 234 Home Economics Building, during normal
business hours. The deadline for donations is 4 p.m. Aug. 11. Examples of
items being sought include vintage household and ethnic textiles; usable
textile materials; buttons, notions, yarns; textile and fiber related
books and tools; dollmaking and art and craft supplies. Clothing/garments

12. Speech and Debate second of NRT's Destinations series
Sex. Secrets. Performance-art video blogs with a George Michael beat. Just
another typical day when you're a teenager in Salem, Oregon. Speech and
Debate is Stephen Karam's fiercely funny and surprisingly timely new play
which will have a staged reading as the second of the Nebraska Repertory
Theatre's Destinations series. One performance only at 7:30 p.m. July 28

* Summer Hours (July 31-Aug. 6) - Three siblings must come to terms with
their mother's mortality as they decide what to do with her valuable
belongings in this warm family drama from filmmaker Olivier Assayas.
* Three Monkeys (July 31-Aug. 6) - Winner of the Best Director prize at
Cannes, Three Monkeys tells a twisty, noirish tale that opens with an
ambitious politician fleeing a hit-and-run accident. Afraid of hurting his
election chances, he pays off his chauffeur Eyüp to take the rap. The film
concerns the effects of this devil's bargain on Eyup's family as simmering
tensions and sexual intrigue wreak havoc in a household already haunted by
hidden ghosts.

16. New NET Television Special on Husker Football Walk-on Program
Whether from Alliance to Auburn, or Ogallala to Omaha, there is a
never-say-die, hard-working attitude that unites Nebraskans. That attitude
is exemplified by the special way football is played at the University of
Nebraska and the honored tradition of the Big Red walk-on program. A new
NET Television special, "Walk Ons: Huskers' Edge," premiering at 7 p.m.
Aug. 4 on NET1 Cable 12, over-the-air 12.1 and in high-definition on
NET-HD, tells the story of the University of Nebraska's football walk-on
program, following the young men raised with Nebraska values and dreaming
of becoming Huskers and playing in Memorial Stadium. The program also airs
at 8 p.m. Aug. 6, and at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9 on NET1 Cable 12, over-the-air
12.1 and NET-HD.
