New Hubbard Rhino Barn Open to Public at Ashfall Fossil Beds The Hubbard Rhino Barn at Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park (Royal, Neb.) is now open to the public. The newly expanded facility will allow for greater excavation and protection of many more fossils buried there, enhancing the experience for visitors. Ashfall Fossil Beds is a cooperative project of the NU State Museum and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. IS-UNL Computer and Phone Shop Going Green The IS-UNL Computer and Phone Shop is "Going Green." The 501 Building location is being remodeled and becoming more environmentally friendly by bringing in new "green" products and redesigning the store. This location will be closed June 29 thru the beginning of August. For all of your technology needs visit the Nebraska Union, Nebraska East Union or 211 Nebraska Hall during this time. Also, the IS-UNL Computer and Phone Shop (Nebraska Union location) is now open on Saturdays. Stop in to check out their new products and laptops. Retirement Reception for Coach Francis Allen Join the Athletic Department from 3 to 5 p.m. June 30 in the West Stadium Club, Level 3 of West Memorial Stadium on city campus to salute Coach Francis Allen, who will retire on June 30 after 40 seasons as Nebraska's men's gymnastics coach and 42 years of service to the University of Nebraska. http://Huskers.com ************************************************************************* 4. Tom Slocum Retirement Reception June 26 A retirement reception for Tom Slocum, University Communications, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. June 26 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Slocum has been a photographer for the University for the past 40 years. Join the department as they thank him for his more than four decades of service. Workplace Security and Safety - A Brown Bag Presentation Security and Safety in the Workplace will be presented at noon June 29 in the Georgian Room of the Nebraska Union. David Sedaris to appear at University Bookstore June 20 New York Times best-selling author and radio personality David Sedaris will sign books and promote his new paperback "When You Are Engulfed in Flames," at 7 p.m. June 20 at the University Bookstore. This is a free event, but seating is limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors open at 2 p.m. Starting at 2:30 p.m., Cody Hustak, Ryan Cownie, Joe Choi, Christian Stokes, and Heather Jones (voted funniest mom in Omaha), will entertain the crowd with stand-up comedy. ************************************************************************* 11. School of Music Events: June 16-June 22 * June 13-20, all day, the School of Music hosts the Chamber Music Institute, Lessons in Performance, Composition and Entrepreneurship. Chamber music students and recent college graduates work with UNL music faculty and Artists-in-Residents, the Chiara String Quartet, to focus on chamber skills in performance and composition. * Coming on June 28, the week-long High School Jazz Camp will offer high school students, grades 9 through 12, the chance to study with UNL Jazz faculty and guest clinician John Riley.
