 1. Setup Your New Voice Mailbox
Information Services has installed a new campus voicemail system which will go
live April 2. All current UNL voicemail system users should set up their voice
mailboxes on the new system beginning today. Dial 6-7200 (or 436-7200 from off
campus) and a voice prompt will guide you through the process. (Follow the link
for the default security code). It's quick, easy and registering will ensure
your voicemail will receive messages after the switchover. For more information

 2. Convocations Committee Application Deadline March 27
The University Convocations Committee is now accepting applications for fall
2009. The deadline is March 27. You may access the forms at the Web site listed
below. Due to limited funding, only one application per department will be
considered. Review of applications will begin shortly after the deadline, with
notification of awards in April.

 3. Beginning and Intermediate Chinese Language Classes
The Confucius Institute is offering Beginning Chinese I and II and
Intermediate Chinese I and II classes beginning March 23 and 24.

 4. Starting a Food Business?
The Food Processing Center is offering a one-day seminar for all individuals
interested in exploring the idea of starting a food manufacturing business.
The "From Recipe to Reality" seminar will be offered on May 15. Pre-registration

 5. Encourage Youth to Experience UNL at Big Red Summer Camps
Several academic departments across the UNL campus are teaming up with
Nebraska 4-H to host a series of career exploration camps open to all youth
who will be in grades 9-12. At the 2009 Big Red Summer Academic Camps,
scheduled during the week of June 7-12, youth can choose from the following
academic focus areas: Child Development, Companion Animals, Culinary Arts,
Filmmaking, Food Molecular Biology, Spider Science, Theatre, Quilt Design,
Government, Veterinary Science, and Web Design and Animation. For more

The Rivers and Wildlife Celebration will be held March 20-22 at the Kearney

 8. Cesar Chavez Day Celebration
E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues and OASIS invite you to the Cesar Chavez
Day Celebration at 6 p.m. March 24 in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room.
They will show the documentary "We the People: An American Dream and
Nightmare," produced by Luis Peon-Casanova. The event is free and open to
the public.

"Biology, Systematics and Phylogenetic Analysis of Nacobbus aberrans, the
False Root-Knot Nematode," will be presented by Angel Ramirez, Powers

10. A Panel Discussion on Nebraska's Death Penalty Legislation
You're invited to a panel discussion about Nebraska's current death penalty
legislation, LB 36 and LB 306, at 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the Nebraska Union
Auditorium. Panelists include state senator Brenda Council and J. Kirk Brown,
solicitor general of Nebraska. The event is sponsored by Pi Sigma Alpha,
political science honor society.

11. Randy Moore is Keynote Speaker at Darwin Conference March 26
University of Minnesota professor Randy Moore will speak on "The Creationist
Down the Hall: The Extent and Impact of Teaching Evolution and Creationism in
Public Schools," at 7 p.m. March 26 at the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St.
His talk will open the "Celebrating Darwin's Legacy" symposium. This talk is
free and open to the public.

12. Seminar - Spectrum Regulation and Cognitive Radios
Dr. Robert David Kubik, Motorola, will present "Spectrum Regulation and
Cognitive Radios," at 2 p.m. March 26 in the Electrical Engineering Conference
Room, north Walter Scott Engineering Center. As we move towards an Internet
centric world, the demands on the limited spectrum for broadband communications
is driving the communications world into new solutions for spectrum access and
forcing spectrum regulators to rethink how the develop requirements for spectrum
access. The discussion will give an overview of the US regulatory area, a bit
of history, the current state of play and provide some insight to new

You'll learn how to create a variety of popular text effects in Photoshop
in a free one hour workshop at 11 a.m. April 16 in Architecture 107.
Techniques include beveled, embossed, textured, chrome, and how to paste
an image inside of your text. Not just for type, these techniques are
useful for learning how to create special effects for all kinds of objects
and will give you insight on many of Photoshop's filters and commands.

The next SWAP Meet: Free Technology Resources, will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

17. Data, Donuts, Surveys and Solutions
The Bureau of Sociological Research (BOSR) and Survey, Statistics and
Psychometrics (SSP) invite you to bring your research-related questions
to one of their upcoming free drop-in sessions. Staff will be present to
help you brainstorm ideas for designing, collecting, analyzing, and
funding research projects. They can also help you locate specific resources
on campus to address your questions or to facilitate your research from
start to finish or stages in between. The next session will be held from

18. Can Nebraska Families Still Afford College?
The Diversity Working Group will sponsor a presentation examining the
importance of student financial aid in addressing barriers that limit
access to college, how access and success varies by SES, and recent
state and federal legislative initiatives that may impact college access.
The program will be presented by Craig Munier, director of Scholarships
and Financial Aid, from noon to 1 p.m. March 31 in the Nebraska Union.
