 3. Limited Submission-NE Department of Health and Human Services
Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services-Division of Public
Health-Stem Cell Research Project-2009 Request for Applications. The
application deadline is June 12. To receive a copy of the RFA and the

Each sponsoring institution may submit a maximum of five proposals in a
given funding cycle. Faculty interested in developing a proposal in
response to this RFA must submit an on-line Notice of Intent to Submit
form. The UNL Intent to Submit deadline is May 26. If necessary, the
Office of Research will host an internal competition to determine the
projects that will be submitted during this funding cycle. For more

 7. Limited Submission-NSF Recovery Act - Major Research Instrumentation
NSF has released a special Recovery Act request for Major Research
Instrumentation (MRI) proposals. Faculty interested in developing an MRI
proposal for August must complete the Notice of Intent to Submit form no
later than June 5. Then, interested faculty must submit a UNL pre-proposal
no later than June 29. The template and instructions for this pre-proposal
may be found at the Web site below. Interested applicants also should note
and develop a plan to address the program's cost share requirement. For

The Department of Statistics offers statistical assistance through its

 9. Natural Fertilizer Compost for Sale
Natural Fertilizer compost is for sale from Animal Science. Priced at $2
per bag, it is packed in 1 cubic foot heat sealed polyethylene bags.
Natural Fertilizer is an excellent soil conditioner and fertilizer (N-P-K
is minimum 1-2-1) for use on flower beds, gardens and lawns. It is easy to

11. Yoga on the Green . . . for a Cause
The University and the community are invited to participate for free in
'Yoga on the Green . . . for a Cause' on the following days: Wednesday,
May 20, 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the green space north of the Nebraska Union,
and Wednesday, May 27, noon to 12:30 p.m. on East Campus (location TBA).
Both events are free to attend and participate; donations will be
collected to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation-Nebraska Chapter. No
prior yoga experience required - just bring a large mat/towel, sunscreen,

12. SWAP Meet: Digital Photography
With summer soon upon us, we'll begin taking a lot of photos of family,
sports, and our gardens. Learn how best to take action shots versus still
photos or make the kids photos more interesting. You'll also learn how to
finish the photos by getting rid of red-eye and fix lighting that has gone
wrong. Bring your lunch from noon to 1 p.m. May 27 at the Nebraska Union

13. Data and Donuts: Summer Session
The BOSR and SSP are partnering with the NEAR Center for their first Data
and Donuts summer session from 10 a.m. to noon May 22 at 104 Benton Hall.
They will help you brainstorm ideas for designing, collecting, analyzing,
and funding your research projects. They can also help you locate specific
resources on campus to address your questions or to facilitate your
research from start to finish or stages in between. The event is free and
open to the public.

15. Know Your Mushrooms and The Pope's Toilet open Friday at the Ross
* Know Your Mushrooms (May 22-28) - Mushroom visionaries Gary Lincoff and
Larry Evans lead us on a hunt for the wild mushroom and the deeper
cultural experiences attached to the mysterious fungi.
* The Pope's Toilet (May 22-28) - The shabby Uruguayan border town of Melo
is counting on Pope John Paul II's 1988 visit to bring some material
salvation along with the spiritual variety. Smalltime smuggler Beto
hatches what he thinks will be an easy scheme to build a private washroom
for the festivities.
