 1. City Campus Chilled Water Outage Jan. 4-8
A City Campus chilled water outage is planned to occur Jan 4 to Jan. 8.
These dates were selected to coincide with a low level of student activity
on the campus. The outage is necessary to perform maintenance at the City
Campus Utility Plant that is not possible during normal operations. During
this outage there will be no chilled water for equipment cooling or
air-conditioning. Building air-conditioning will continue to be provided
using cold outside air. If warm days occur during this outage, interior
building temperatures may be elevated. Contact Utility Services
construction coordinator, Charlie Griesen, at 472-8612 or
cgriesen@unlnotes.unl.edu if you have any questions or concerns regarding
the outage or need accommodations during this time period.

UNL and Shape up the Nation are bringing faculty/staff, students, and
those in our social network a team-based physical activity and nutrition
challenge. The program launches on Jan. 18. The fee of $40 covers the cost

 3. NU Technology Day 2010: Call for Proposals
University campuses will present, demonstrate and collaborate on
information technology aligned to support the mission of the University of
Nebraska with Technology Day 2010 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 17 in the
Nebraska Union. Play an active part in the premier NU-wide IT event by
sharing your projects that contribute to your department, college and
university's mission. The deadline for proposals is Jan. 31. Register for

 5. James V. Griesen Exemplary Service to Students Award Nominations
This award acknowledges extraordinary and sustained performance by
individuals serving UNL's students. This award will be accompanied by a
$1,500 stipend. All UNL employees are eligible for nomination, and
nominations may be made by a UNL student, faculty member, staff member or
administrator. Guidelines and nomination forms are available on the
Student Affairs Web site. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 15.

This award acknowledges faculty or advising staff who have demonstrated
outstanding advising ability and who, by their service to UNL, have made a

 7. Calling for Volunteers for the 2010 Middle and High Science Bowls
There is a full slate of teams for the 2010 Middle and High Science Bowls.
The Middle School competition will be Jan. 30, and the High School
competition will be Feb. 6. Volunteers are needed. Lunch will be provided
for all volunteers. Sponsored by the UNL Chemistry Deptartment.

Volunteers are needed for new international student Orientation from 7

The First Lego League Competition will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan.

University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a scholarship
contest for credit union members who are high school seniors and college
or trade school students who will be either full or part-time students for

UNL's Ethics Center invites you to join them once a month for conversation
about ethics in context. The next brownbag will be held from 12:30 to 1:30

discussion on The Selling of the University. These lunches provide an

* Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sheldon Museum of Art in the Ethel S. Abbott
Auditorium, Jazz Ensembles I and II will perform Kansas City Suite by
Benny Carter featuring guest narrator, Dr. Anthony Bushard. This event is
free and open to the public.
* Dec. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, the Big Red Singers and
Vocal Jazz Ensemble will give a recital.
* Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, the Symphony Orchestra
will give a concert. Tyler Goodrich White conducts along with graduate
associate conductor Tobin Stewart. Faculty guest artist, Alan Mattingly,
horn, and graduate guest artists, Graham House, Joshua Johnson, and
Nicholas Kenney, horns, will join the Symphony.
* Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall, room 119, Musical
Theatre Showcase will give a recital. This event is free and open to the
public.
* Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Lied Center for Performing Arts, the Cornhusker
Marching Band will perform the annual Highlights concert. Tickets are

and are $12 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors.
* Dec. 12, at 1:30 and 4 p.m. in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theater,
the holiday family favorite Amahl and the Night Visitors. This event is

* Dec. 13, at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, faculty artists the Chiara
String Quartet will perform the Complete String Quartets of Beethoven,
Part I, in the first in a series of three concerts in celebration of the
2009/2010 Inaugural Season of the Hixson-Lied Concert Series. Tickets for
this event are $20 for individual, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students.
Tickets are available through the Lied Center box office at 472-4747 or at
the door. Tickets for all three concerts can be purchased together at the
subscription rate of $40 for individual, $20 for seniors, and $10 for
students.
* Dec. 13, at 4:30 p.m. in Southwood Lutheran Church at 9300 So 40th
Street, the University Singers under the direction of Dr. Peter A. Eklund,
will perform Handel's Messiah. Martin Cook, Eric Harstad, Brian Hart,
Zachary Vreeman, James Wilson, are assistant conductors, with full
orchestra conducted by Clark Potter. This event is FREE and open to the
public.
Unless otherwise noted tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for
students and seniors and will be available at the door approximately one
