Students can now participate in peer-to-peer mentoring sessions with money
management mentors at the new Student Money Management Center, located in

students develop ways to successfully manage their finances and empower

 4. Body Composition Testing March 10-11
Learn your personal percentage of lean muscle and body fat at the Body
Composition Testing from 3 to 4 p.m. March 10 and March 11 in the Strength
and Conditioning Room of the UNL Campus Rec Center. The cost is $3 for UNL
students and CREC members; $9 for non-members/general public. A 3-pinch
caliper computer testing system will be used. If you cannot attend these

 5. Itty Bitty Youth Sports at UNL Campus Recreation
The Itty Bitty Sports program will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on
Tuesdays from March 23 to April 27 at the East Campus Activities Building.
This session be a "Soccer" theme and focus on the basic skills of kicking,
trapping, throw-ins, and running. Open to both girls and boys ages 3-5
years. The cost is $45 per child for UNL students and CREC members; $55
per child for general public. Registration deadline is March 19.

 6. Adult Swim Lessons begin March 29
UNL Campus Recreation is offering Adult Swim Lessons on Mondays, March
29-April 19, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the Campus Rec Center. Pre-registration
is required; space is limited and available on a first come, first served
basis. Lessons are open to the UNL community and the general public. The
cost is $24 for UNL students and CREC members; $32 for non-members and

 7. 5-Week Fitness Boot Camp starts March 30
UNL Campus Recreation is offering a 5-week early morning Fitness Boot
Camp, March 30 - April 29, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 7 a.m. at the Mabel
Lee Rec Fields. Program will offer great fitness instruction with
motivational training - perfect for all adult ages and fitness levels.
Both first-time exercisers and long-time workout buffs are invited to
join. Workouts will be high impact interval training which will add
elements of strength, cardio, and core exercises. The cost is $100 for UNL
students and CREC members; $175 for non-members and general public.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman will present the awards for Outstanding
Contribution to the Status of Women at 3 p.m. March 11 in the Nebraska

13. Larry Schweiger - National Wildlife Federation CEO to visit UNL
Larry Schweiger, CEO of the National Wildlife Federation will visit UNL on
March 10. He will present a seminar on his book Last Chance: Preserving
Life on Earth at 1:30 p.m. in Room 116 of Chase Hall on East Campus. He
presents the science of global climate change, and how it is affecting the

17. March Olson Seminar - Immigration to Great Plains 1865-1914
The mass immigration to the Great Plains that occurred between the Civil
War and World War I might be best understood in the international context
that emerged in the 1860s out of four large wars. That context will be the
subject of the next Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies, when
UNO historian Bruce Garver presents "Immigration to the Great Plains,
1865-1914: War, Politics, Technology and Economic Development." Garver's
talk will be at 3:30 p.m. March 10 in the Great Plains Art Museum. The
lecture and a 3 p.m. reception in the museum are free and open to the

29. Writer and filmmaker Sandra Hochman in person at the Ross
Filmmaker and writer Sandra Hochman will be at the Ross Media Arts Center
on March 10 to speak after a screening of her film "Year of the Woman."
The screening begins at 5 p.m., with Q&A to follow. Hochman is a Yale
Younger Poet and author of 30 books, two of which were nominated for the
Pulitzer Prize. She was ranked one of the five most important women
writers in America by Esquire Magazine, and was voted one of the hundred
outstanding women in America by Harper's Bazaar. She is a poet, novelist,
playwright and filmmaker. Admission to the film is at regular Ross prices,
admission to the discussion is free. Year of the Woman and Hochman's
appearance are part of UNL Women's Week 2010.

31. Rotunda Gallery features "Native Daughters" exhibit
An exhibition of photographs featuring Native American women will be
displayed March 8-12 at the Rotunda Gallery in the Nebraska Union. The
exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is in honor of Women's Week
2010. The exhibit is part of the Native Daughters depth-reporting course
in the J school. The course was funded by a grant from the Carnegie
Corporation of New York and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

32. School of Music Events: March 9-15
* March 9 at 7:30 p.m., UNL Dance students will present a dance concert
entitled Shrew'd Moves in the Great Hall and the North Gallery of Sheldon
Museum of Art. The concert is part of the Tuesday Nights at Sheldon: A
School of Music Performance Series. This event is free and open to the
public. There will be an informal reception in the Great Hall after the
last dance.
* March 10 at 7:30 p.m., Student Soloists Night featuring the winners of
the 2009-10 Undergraduate and Graduate Solo Competitions with the Symphony
Orchestra under the direction of Tyler White. Excerpts from Wagner's Die
Meistersinger will be featured. The concert will take place in Kimball
Recital Hall.
* March 11 at 7:30 p.m., the Symphonic Band will give a concert in Kimball
Recital Hall. The concert, entitled American Voices, features works by
Mark Camphouse, Larry Clark's Shenandoah's Simple Gifts, and Aaron
Copland's An Outdoor Overture (1938) with graduate assistant conductor
Raul Barcenes conducting, and Copeland's Lincoln Portrait with narration
by faculty artist Dr. William Shomos.
Unless otherwise noted tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for
students and seniors and will be available at the door approximately one
hour before the performance.

33. One Night of Queen Guaranteed to Rock
The UK's hottest and most successful rock show, One Night of Queen, which
celebrates the music of Rock and Roll legend Freddie Mercury, will rock
the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. March 11. Performed by
Gary Mullen and 'The Works,' One Night of Queen celebrates and recreates
the music of Queen. Together they play hits including "We Will Rock You,"

34. Sheldon Hosts Performances and Nebraska State Poetry Contest
* March 9, 7:30 p.m. - Performing in the Tuesday Nights at Sheldon, the
UNL Dance Ensemble presents "Crossed Purposes," a piece to Richard
Strauss's Suite for 13 Woodwinds, Op. 4. The event is free and the public
is welcome.
* March 12, 8 to 9:30 p.m. - Performing in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium,
The Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music will perform. Featured in the
performance is Matt Himovitz, an international cellist, Andy Simionescu, a
violinist who has played with the Bowdoin Trio, and Nokuthula Ngwenyama, a
violinist and frequent collaborator of the Chamber Music Society of
Lincoln Center. A fee is required for admission.
* March 13, 1 to 4 p.m. -  Competing for the Nebraska state champion
title, The Nebraska State Finals of the "Poetry Out Loud" National
Recitation Contest will be held in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium. Winners
of the contest will participate in the national competition in Washington,
D.C., where they will compete for $50,000 in prizes. The event is free and

35. Morrill Hall's 'Colorful Creature' Art Contest Entries Due April 16
The State Museum is conducting its 2nd annual 'Colorful Creature' art
contest now through April 16. Children in pre-school through fifth grade
are invited to participate in this fun challenge to create the most wildly
colorful version of their favorite ancient or modern creature. All entries
will be displayed at Morrill Hall as part of a special exhibit in May. For

36. The Last Station and Seraphine open Friday at the Ross
* The Last Station (March 12-25) - In 1910, famed novelist Leo Tolstoy
(Christopher Plummer) and his wife Sofya (Helen Mirren) vehemently
disagree over the rights to Tolstoy's literary legacy. Sofya believes her
husband should bequeath them to her upon his death, while Tolstoy's chief
disciple, Chertkov (Paul Giamatti), has nearly convinced the writer to
sign the rights over to the Russian people. To this end, Chertkov inserts
a spy James McAvoy) into Tolstoy's household, who promptly falls for one
of the novelist's daughters.
* Seraphine (March 12-18) - Seraphine vividly recounts the tragic story of
French naive painter Seraphine Louis aka Seraphine de Senlis, a humble
servant who becomes a gifted self-taught painter.

37. Boys High School Basketball Tournament on NET Television Saturday
On March 13, "NSAA Boys State High School Basketball Tournament" is
broadcast live from the Bob Devaney Sports Center on NET1 Cable 12,
over-the-air 12.1 and in high-definition on NET-HD. Coverage begins at
9:30 a.m. with the Class D-1 finals. The day-long coverage continues with
the Class C-1 championship game at 11:30 a.m. and the Class B title game
at 1:30 p.m. The match-ups continue at 5 p.m. with the championship game
for Class D-2, followed at 7 p.m. by the Class A final. The Class C-2
championship game concludes the day's action at 9 p.m.
