Scheduled Campus Voicemail Outage Nov. 1 The campus voicemail system will be off-line for a planned software update from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Nov. 1. Users will be unable to retrieve or leave new messages during this period. This update will not affect the status of messages already left in subscribers voicemail mailboxes. Oldfather hall wireless network upgrade Oct. 21 On Oct. 21, the wireless network in Oldfather hall will be upgraded to new 802.11AGN access. There will be minimal down time as the wireless access points will be replaced one at a time. Convocations Committee Funding Deadline The UNL Convocations Committee will review applications in November of funding requests for the spring 2010 semester. The grants, which may be used for support of visiting speakers, are generally $150 to $750. Money is limited, and the process is competitive. The application deadline is Oct. 31. Itty Bitty Sports starts Oct. 27 The Itty Bitty Sports "Basketball" program will be offered from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays from Oct. 27 to Dec. 8 at the East Campus Activities Building. This "Basketball" session will focus on dribbling, passing, catching, shooting, and agility. It is open to both girls and boys ages 3-5 years. The cost is $45 per child for UNL students and CREC members; $55 per child for general public. The registration deadline is Oct 23. NU State Museum's 'Weapons Throughout Time' exhibit opens Oct. 23 On Oct. 23, the NU State Museum (Morrill Hall) will open "Weapons Throughout Time," an exhibit that explores weapons spanning more than 9,000 years of history. Visitors will have a close-up look at the technology and cultural influences found in weapons used throughout time and across the world, from 13th-century Samurai swords to World War I automatic weapons. Sheldon Museum of Art holds Dia de los Muertos events * Oct. 27 to Nov. 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a centuries-old spiritual tradition celebrating the continuity of life by honoring the dead on their return to earth for one day. The Great Hall of the Sheldon Museum of Art will be elaborately decorated for the art and cultural celebration with papier-mache sculptures and papel picados hanging from the windows. A traditional ofrenda (altar) will offer visitors opportunities to honor loved ones. * Oct. 29, 7 to 10 p.m. - Dia de los Muertos Masquerade Ball.
