Rules Release & Design Progress

Oct 29 2010

The rules for the 2011 Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition were released October 22nd. Only minor changes were made over last year, primarily clarifying previous rules and making more changes to damage scoring. A copy of the rules, appendix and ground motions can be found on the documents page.

Analysis of the 3 designs the team voted on are ongoing. Preliminary runs for EQ3 were finished during and after today's meeting, further narrowing down which structure we will likely use. Further refinements will be made over the coming weeks and at subsequent meetings.

SAP2000 Analysis

Oct 1 2010

The October 1st design meeting resulted in the selection of three designs to perform analysis on. Group volunteers will be modeling these concepts in SAP to gauge performance and select a tower for possible construction once the 2010-2011 rules are released. Anyone interested in learning more about SAP and possible tutorials can contact the chapter email address. Details and possible times are forthcoming.

New Documents & Calendar

September 23 2010

The membership application, chapter constitution and 2010 Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition rules are now avialable in our documents section. The USDC rules will likely be changing slightly in October based on last years competition results but they provide a reasonable basis for working on design concepts.

In addition to the new docs a page including the chapter calendar is now available for planning beyond what is listed here under Upcoming Events. You can add the calendar to your GMav or Google calendar by subscribing to eeri.unl@gmail.com using the "add a friend's calendar" box under "other calendars". Events with roughly a 2 week horizon will still be posted here.
