Seminar Series - 2003-2004

A Stochastic Framework for Microstructural Material Modelling

Dr. Sanjay R. Arwade
Assistant Professor
Department of Civil Engineering
Johns Hopkins University

Date:  Thursday, April 29, 2004
Time:  1:00 p.m.
Place:  110 Othmer Hall

A computational framework for modelling, simulating, and analyzing random microstructured materials is presented. Statistical analysis of experimental material measurements motivates probabilistic models for microstructures. Random tessellations and random fields are the primary tools implemented. Sample generation techniques are developed to enable the efficient simulation of material microstructures. Lastly, an example application is presented in which intergranular fracture is simulated for random polycrystals.
