Elastic Waves and Vibrations for Material and Microstructural Characterization

Prof. Joseph A. Turner

An overview of research topics is presented related to ultrasound and atomic force acousitc microscopy for characterizing many different materials/microstructures including: nanofiber composites, piezoelectric ceramics, polycrystalline materials, MEMS, metallic sinters, and cement-based materials.

Microstructure Mechanics of Active Materials

Prof. Jiangyu Li

An overview on research activities in my group related to the microstructure mechanics of active materials will be presented.

Computational Modeling and Optimal Design of Materials and Structures: From the Nanoscale to the Macroscale

Prof. Florin Bobaru

We will review our group's current topics of research incomputational mechanics and optimal design. Shape optimization of thermoelastic structures, composition optimization of Functionally Graded Materials, and modeling of nanostructures and nanomaterials will be discussed.
