UNL Engineering Mechanics

Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Engineering Mechanics website at the University of Nebraska.

Our department is unique within the College of Engineering and Technology at UNL, in that it teaches a wide range of undergraduate courses but does not have its own undergraduate degree program.  We teach fundamental core courses in the engineering sciences, including statics, dynamics, and strength of materials.  These courses form the basis for more advanced coursework in Architectural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial & Management Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, and Construction Management.  In addition, we offer a number of upper-level technical electives in solid mechanics, dynamics, and numerical methods.  We take great pride in the quality and rigor of our undergraduate offerings.

We have a very strong research  and graduate program, offering courses of study leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.  Our research activities are recognized at the national and international level, and include innovative projects on nanostructured materials; nondestructive testing; ceramic, polymeric, piezoelectric, and smart materials characterization; modeling and micro-scale dynamic systems; and computational mechanics.
