A regular search is required for all positions. If there are unusual circumstances that would result in an adverse impact on the university if a search is conducted, a waiver may be appropriate. All waiver requests must be on the requesting department's letterhead, signed by the hiring authority and accompanied by an approved position requisition. Waiver requests may be submitted electronically as an attachment to an email, directed to the EADP office email.  If you have questions as to whether a waiver of the search requirement is appropriate, please call the EADP office.

If circumstances require the entire search process to be waived, a request must include the following information within the body of the letter:

  • The position title and classification (faculty/administrative or managerial/professional)
  • The name of the person the department wished to place in the position
  • Certification that this person is qualified for the position according to Human Resources or Academic Affairs
  • A detailed rationale for the waiver request

If only part of the search procedure needs to be waived, a request must include the following information within the body of the letter:

  • The position title and classification (faculty/administrative or managerial/professional)
  • Which part of the process is being requested for a waiver
  • A detailed rationale for the waiver request
