Wright is next Geske lecturer Nov. 2
Gwendolyn Wright, a professor of architecture at Columbia University and host of the PBS television series, “History Detectives,” will deliver the next Geske Lecture.
Wright’s lecture, titled “Frank Lloyd Wright’s Progressive Suburbia” will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 in the Sheldon Museum of Art’s Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium at 12th and R sts. on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow the lecture in Sheldon’s Great Hall.

Sculpture Exchange Exhibition opens Oct. 12
An Exchange Sculpture Exhibition from the University of Alabama will run Oct. 12-Nov. 19 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall on the city campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. An opening reception will be held on Oct. 12 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

University Theatre Opens Season with You Never Can Tell
University Theatre, the academic production program of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film opens its season October 8 with George Bernard Shaw’s You Never Can Tell directed by Emeriti Professor Dr. Tice L. Miller. Additional performances are October 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 all at 7:30 p.m. and October 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, first floor Temple Building, 12th and R Streets.

Distinguished archaeologist to speak on Greek funerary art
In his lecture, Dr. John H. Oakley, from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, will examine the development of the standard themes found on these white lekythoi, as well as discuss what these scenes tell us about classical Athenian perceptions of and reactions to death. The lecture will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12 in Room 15 of Richards Hall, located at Stadium Drive and T sts. on the UNL city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

First AIA Lectureis Sept. 27
The Lincoln-Omaha Society of the Archaeological Institute of America announces the first of six lectures on archaeology for the 2009-2010 season. Professor Naomi Norman, from the University of Georgia, will be speaking on recent archaeological discoveries in several of the Roman cities of North Africa.

University Singers to pay tribute to Earl “Pete” Jenkins on Oct. 15
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and School of Music, together with the University of Nebraska Foundation, will be celebrating the life and legacy of Professor Emeritus Earl “Pete” Jenkins, who passed away on Aug. 3, as part of the University Singers concert on Oct. 15 in Kimball Recital Hall.

First Carson Lectureship is Oct. 16
The first Johnny Carson Lectureship will be at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.
