Students must be accepted into the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts in order to major in Art, Art History, Dance, Music, or Theatre. Students gain entrance into the College through a dual process of review using the UNL general admission requirements and specific college admission requirements.
For general admission students must apply and be accepted to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln through the UNL on-line application.
Within the College of Fine & Performing Arts some majors and emphasis areas require further action by the student, in the form of an in-person audition, or a special application with supporting materials to the department office. See audition dates and special application deadlines below.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS
All students must meet University Core Course Requirements. In addition, to be admitted to the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, all students must have completed the following:
New Freshmen: ACT 22 (composite) or SAT 1020 (Critical Reading and Math only).
Transfer Students: completed twelve or more semester credits from a postsecondary institution; cumulative GPA 2.5 and GPA 2.0 during the last semester of record at the time of application. (Transfer students with System GPA: cumulative GPA 2.5 with semester GPA 2.0 and System GPA 2.5) (Theatre majors with an emphasis in Film and New Media: cumulative GPA 3.0 and GPA 3.0 during the last semester of record at the time of application.)
Readmit Students: UNL system cumulative GPA 2.5 (Theatre majors with an emphasis in Film and New Media: cumulative GPA 3.0).
International Students: TOEFL 213 (computer) or 550 (paper) or 79 (iBT).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS BY MAJOR
Art, Art History: No auditions or special applications.
Music, Dance: An audition, by appointment only, is required for majors and minors.

November 4, 2009 (dance)
November 5, 2009 (music) - Spring:
- January 22, 2010 (brass, composition, percussion, voice, winds)
January 23, 2010 (dance, keyboard, strings, voice)
February 26, 2010 (dance, keyboard, strings, voice)
February 27, 2010 (brass, composition, percussion, voice, winds)

- Theatre (Emphasis in Performance): An audition by appointment is required for majors.
- Audition Dates: March 6, 2010 (Additional appointments on most Fridays through April 23, 2010)
Theatre (Emphasis in Film & New Media):
A separate application and supporting materials to the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film is required. Final Deadline: February 27, 2010 (postmarked by this date).
Mid-Year Admission: There is no mid-year admission for the emphasis in film and new media.
Theatre (Emphasis in Directing and Management):
Contact the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film office.
Theatre and Film (Emphasis in Design/Technical Production):
No additional audition or application, however you MUST contact the theatre office before November 1 (spring admittance) or May 1 (fall admittance) to declare your emphasis.
PLEASE NOTE--VERY IMPORTANT
Students who have been admitted to UNL, but not admitted into the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts by March 31 (Fall/Summer) and October 31 (Spring) will automatically be admitted to General Studies as an undeclared major. After being admitted to General Studies, students can change to a major in the College after the College Requirements and Additional Departmental Requirements (if applicable) have been met. (**This policy does not apply to art and art history majors.**)
NOTE: Non-majors may enroll in music ensembles, beginning dance and theatre classes, music classes for non-majors, and all art history classes. To enroll in all other courses offered in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, non-majors must obtain special permission from the instructor.
