JOHNNY CARSON SCHOOL OF THEATRE AND FILM JUNIOR RECEIVES AWARD AT OMAHA FILM FESTIVAL
Lincoln, Neb.—"Temper Espresso," written and directed by Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film junior John Albrecht, won the Best Nebraska Short Film award at the Omaha Film Festival Feb. 24.
The third annual Omaha Film Festival, held Feb. 16-24, included screenings of narrative feature films, documentaries, international films, animated films and short films. Eleven short films shown at the festival were made in Nebraska or by Nebraskans, the largest regional total for the festival.
"Temper Espresso" is a short comedy about two people in a coffee house who become very territorial about a table. In the film, a young man confronts another coffee house regular who steals his table. A tense battle ensues wherein the two men struggle to keep their territory despite losing all sense of dignity.
The film was made by the Film Production II class in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in March 2007. The film class chooses which two scripts they want to fully produce during the semester, and Albrecht's script for "Temper Espresso" was one of the two films selected.
Albrecht won a Nebby Award for Best Directing and received honorable mentions for Best Sync Film and Best Cinematography for ³Temper Espresso² last year in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film annual film awards.
Albrecht, who is originally from Kearney, Neb., was a project intern at NET Television in 2007 and currently works as an audio/video producer and editor at the UNL New Media Center. He was one of four students who produced and edited "Johnny Carson: Student of Comedy" for the Dedication of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film last fall.
