Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts

Student Ambassadors

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine Arts Ambassadors Program utilizes outstanding undergraduate students to promote pride and develop awareness of the HLCFPA and its programs and activities. Ambassadors assist with public relations at Red Letter Days, Big Red Road Shows, and audition days. They also give tours of their educational department to prospective students interested in attending UNL and majoring in fine and performing arts.

Dane Christensen

My name is Dane Christensen and I am a senior music education major from Central City, NE. I chose to come to UNL for several reasons. UNL boasts a very comprehensive music education program, something I couldn't find elsewhere. The school of music offers the performance opportunities of a larger institution, but still maintains the individualized attention that is commonly associated with schools of a smaller size. By the end of my sophomore year, I had already sang on the Carnegie Hall stage in New York City with the University Singers and performed in an award-winning opera right here on campus. For these reasons and many more, I've never regretted my decision to become a Husker.

Kyren Conley

My name is Kyren Conley and I am a junior at UNL. I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and feel like I know the art buildings like the back of my hand. I come from the small community of Alliance Nebraska which is smack dab in the middle of the panhandle. Although I am a small town girl, being at UNL has provided me with huge opportunities. For example, this summer I took a two week trip to London and Paris through UNL's Study Abroad program. I also am an intern through the UCARE program for one of the professors who has generously taken me under her wing. My experiences at UNL have not only helped me grow academically but also as an individual. I feel like I will leave UNL a well rounded person, ready for wherever my art takes me.

Jessica Elwell

Hi! My name is Jessica Elwell and I'm a junior at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film with a major in Theatre-Performance. I am originally from Des Moines, Iowa, and have found my experience with The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film to be filled with a wide array of outstanding opportunities. Last year I participated in three different shows for the University and felt extremely honored to be awarded Best Actress of the 2009-2010 Theatrix Season. The theatre program at UNL is more than an educational program; it is a family. The students and faculty alike share an amazing drive to succeed as an ensemble. This has allowed me to grow theatrically and personally more than I could ever imagine. Thanks to the JCSTF, each day I feel more and more confident to take the stage.

Gail Gallagher

Hi. My name is Gail Gallagher and I am from Waterloo, Iowa. I am a dual emphasis in Theatre-Performance and Theatre-Directing and Management. I came to UNL because of the many exciting opportunities it offered. In the past two years I have been active with activities within The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film as well as in the community. I am also President and founder of UNL's Chapter of No Shame Theatre, a sort of open microphone night for playwrights, poets, songwriters or any other sort of performance.

Kathryn Hibbard

Hi! My name is Kathryn Hibbard and I'm from Lincoln, Nebraska. I am a sophomore dance major and psychology minor. I chose UNL because it's the only university in Nebraska that has a degree in dance, and it is part of a School of Music in a College of Fine and Performing Arts. I love this program because I wanted to be at a school where the teachers know you individually, and you are not just a name and number. To be in a small, more personal department in the largest university in Nebraska is for me, the best of both worlds.

Janny Joo

Hi! My name is Janny (Yeojin) Joo, and I am a sophomore Violin Performance major and History and Math minor from Seattle, Washington. I love being here because there is so much support in the School of Music to grow and excel: the faculty is amazing, collaboration with other departments are frequent, well-known artists give master classes often and performance opportunities for variety of people including your peers, the faculty, and even the Chancellor of the University are many. Also, I have varying interests, as my minors suggest, and UNL has been completely accommodating in that regard. Not only am I getting a fabulous education for my minors through the Honors Program, but I am also able to grow as a well-rounded individual through my involvement in many different campus activities. I have learned so much my freshman year, and am truly excited for the future years I have here at UNL.

Emily Martinez

Hi, my name is Emily Martinez and I am a sophomore at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film with a double major in Theatre Performance and Theatre Management. I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, but I have fallen in love with Lincoln and all it has to offer! My freshman year I was involved in four shows (one of which I got a taste of stage combat!), and I also acted in the first Carson School Film Project, "Vipers in the Grass." The students and professors I have met here at UNL have pushed me to learn and grow more than I truly thought possible. I feel at home here and I promise if you give it a chance, we will welcome you with open arms!

Kathleen Rohrig

Hello amazing new students! My name is Kathleen Rohrig, and I am a third-year Art Major. When choosing to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I had a few concerns with what my choice of study all entailed. Art is such a broad and wonderful major! My expectations were quickly fulfilled and exceeded. With the knowledgeable staff and interesting projects, I realized I had made the perfect choice in UNL as the place to pursue my career as a Graphic Designer. The last two years have flown by. And if asked to put all I have learned into writing, the pure amount is impeccable. I used to call Friend, Nebraska, home. Now Lincoln and its wonderful University have welcomed me into their close-knit community, and I have to admit it's pretty cozy here.
