UNL ART ALUMNUS RECEIVES ELIZABETH GREENSHIELDS FOUNDATION GRANT

ApplegateLincoln, Neb.—Caitlin Applegate, who received her Master of Fine Arts in Art in May 2007 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Art and Art History, received a $12,500 grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Applegate plans to use the grant to purchase a new kiln and start-up supplies for a new studio she plans to move into next July in upstate New York.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation of Canada provides awards to candidates in the early stages of their careers working in painting, drawing, printmaking or sculpture. The Foundation promotes an appreciation of the traditional expression in art by aiding worthy art students, artists or sculptors who need further training or other assistance during their formative years.

Applegate is currently an artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha. She will have an exhibition entitled "Bored Meeting: A Sunday Dinner" Feb. 1-March 1, 2008, at the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, showcasing her recent works made during her residency at the Bemis Center.

Applegate was the recipient of the Department of Art and Art History's Dan and Barbara Howard Award for Outstanding Creativity in 2007, as well as the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Graduate Student Leadership Award in 2006.

Applegate received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Summa Cum Laude in ceramics and printmaking at the University of Hartford's Hartford Art School in 2000. She also attended the University of Alaska Anchorage as a post-baccalaureate student before coming to UNL in 2004.
