THREE ARTISTS TO VISIT UNL DEPARTMENT OF ART AND ART HISTORY February 7 -9, 2008.

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska Lincoln Department of Art and Art History will host three nationally known ceramic artists February 7-9, 2006.

Linda Sikora is a studio artist who maintains a pottery in Alfred Station, New York. During the academic year she is an Associate Professor and Division Head of Ceramic Art at Alfred University School of Art and Design. She studied at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and the University of Minnesota Minneapolis. Sikora's work is exhibited and collected nationally and internationally. She will deliver a free public lecture on Thursday, February 7, at 4pm in the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery's Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium.

Steven Heinemann is a ceramic artist who lives and works in Ontario, Canada. Since completing his MFA (Alfred University, 1983) he has taught widely in Canada and the U.S.A. In addition, numerous residencies have taken him to the U.S.A., Holland, Hungary, and Korea, among others. He is represented by galleries in Canada, Europe, U.S.A, and his work is in numerous public collections. In 1996 Heinemnann was granted the Saidye Bronfman Award, Canada's highest recognition of achievement in contemporary craft. Heinemann will deliver a free public lecture on Thursday February 7 at 5 pm in the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery's Ethel S Abbott Auditorium.

Matthew Metz is a ceramic artist in Alfred, New York. His influences include Asian pottery traditions, Greek and Roman pots, early American decorative arts and other folk traditions. The images are often abstract but deeply personal. He received a B.F.A. from Ball State University and a M.F.A. from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He has been a guest lecturer and teacher throughout the country and his work can be found in the Arkansas Arts Center, Minneapolis Institute for the Arts, and the Archie Bray Foundation. He will speak on his work Friday February 8 at 11 am in the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery's Ethel S Abbott Auditorium.

On Thursday, February 7, Sikora, Metz, and Heinemann will give demonstrations from 9 - 11 am, and again 2 - 4 pm In Richards Hall Room 118. The demonstrations will conclude on Friday February 8 from 9 - 11 am.

The visits by these artists are sponsored by the UNL Clay Club. Their public lectures are sponsored by UNL Clay Club and the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.
