JUDY FOX IS NEXT HIXSON-LIED VISITING ARTIST


Lincoln, Neb.-Sculptor Judy Fox is the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Art and Art History. She will present a free public lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Room 15 on the UNL city campus.

Fox is an artist known for her exploration of human nature and culture through translated iconic images. She first attracted attention in the 1980s for her realistic, life-size babies and toddlers made of painted clay. In the 1990s, Fox began to include adults and older children in her allegorical work.

She has been exhibiting nationally since 1985 and internationally since 1994. In 1995 she was included in the Venice Biennale and other European galleries. Her participation in recent significant group shows include "Uncanny" at the Tate in Liverpool, England, and at the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna.

Other recent exhibitions include "Power Figures" at the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris and P-P-O-W in New York, as well as "Judy Fox, Skulpturen 1988-2004" at the Galerie im Traklhaus in Salzburg, Austria. A catalog of all her major works has been published by the International Sommerakademie fur Bildende Kunst in Salzburg, Austria, where she has been on the faculty.

Fox received her Master of Arts from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University. She also attended Ecole Superior Des Beuax Arts in Paris, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine, and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.
