Graduate Student Advisory Board
GRADUATE STUDENT ADVISORY BOARDThe Board meets monthly to discuss topics unique to graduate students in the College.
Members of the graduate level Advisory Board are appointed through recommendations by faculty and forwarded by the unit head. Two seats per unit are available and terms are two years in length. Graduate students who are interested in serving should discuss the possibility with their faculty advisor.

Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Mary is a graduate student in her third year of pursuing her MFA in Directing for Stage and Screen at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. She has won both the 2005 and 2007 William Inge Directing Competition at the Region Five Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival, as well as the 2007 SSDC Award which took her to the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. to direct a new student play. While at UNL, Mary has directed "Scooter Thomas Makes It to the Top of the World" for Theatrix and "Self-Defense or, death of some salesmen" for the Mainstage. For the Great Plains Theatre Conference she has directed a staged reading of Connie Whitt-Lambert's "Second Coming" and in 2007 directed Romulus Linney's "Sand Mountain Matchmaking" for the conference's tribute to the playwright. She is former administrative director for Rough Magic Productions where she directed for "GO(!)" and "Just Add Water: a 24 hour play project." She is currently staging a reading of a new play entitled "Sweet Dreams" by UNL undergraduate Axel Arth for the Arts Are Basic program. She has performed professionally in "Terra Nova" and "Grace and Glorie" at the Great Plains Theatre Festival, as well as performing many roles in academic theatre. She has served as Director of Audience Development and Family Arts Director for the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. |

Department of Art and Art History I am in the third and final year of my Master of Fine Arts degree in the Department of Art and Art History. I came to Lincoln from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, where I had completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors Degree in 2004. For the last three years I have been the assistant to the director and curator of the Eisentrager Howard Gallery, a teacher of record, and vice president of the UNL Clay Club. I have been constantly exhibiting my work for the past six years, and have attended ceramic residencies in the United States and Canada. |

Ryann Johnson School of Music Ryann will finish her Master of Music in Woodwind Specialties in May 2008. Her focus instruments are oboe, saxophone and bassoon. She received her B.M.E. from UNL in May 2003. Prior to returning to UNL she taught 5-12 instrumental music for three years. Besides working as a graduate teaching assistant in the school of music she is the treasurer of the Graduate Music Organization and an oboist in many school ensembles. |

Nicholas Kenney School of Music In 2007 Mr. Kenney earned the Master of Music degree in Horn Performance from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and in 2005 the Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance, Cum Laude, from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC where his teacher is/was Dr. Alan Mattingly; Nick has also studied with Michael Thompson, Jeff Nelsen, Richard Watkins, David Jolley, and Charles "Skip" Snead. As a competition soloist, Nick has won numerous awards at the State and National level. Most recently, Nick was invited to be a lifetime member of the National Scholars Honor Society and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society and was elected President of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Upsilon Colony. In the fall 2007 Nick began the Doctor of Musical Arts At UNL where he serves as the Graduate Teaching Assistant to the horn studio and plays principal horn in the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, the graduate Woodwind Quintet, BLOU, and is a member of the Dean's Graduate Student Advisory Board. |

Kathleen Lorenzen Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Kathleen Lorenzen is a graduate student at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film seeking an MFA in Technical Theatre Design with an emphasis in Lighting and Scenic Design. She is originally from Tampa, Fla., and graduated from the University of South Florida in 2005 with a BA in Theatrical Design. Recently she was the lighting designer for the UNL production of "Self Defense or Death of Some Salesman" and she will be designing the scenic elements for their Spring production of "An American Daughter." |
