"MASTERWORKS OF MASONS" CONCERT APRIL 14 TO FEATURE UNL SYMPHONIC BAND AND SCHOOL OF MUSIC FACULTY SOLOISTS

Lincoln, Neb.- Cotner Lodge #297 is sponsoring the first-ever "Masterworks of Masons" concert on Saturday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Scottish Rite Temple, 332 Centennial Mall South in Lincoln.

The concert will feature the UNL Symphonic Band, under the direction of Senior Lecturer Tony Falcone, and featured soloists Associate Professor of Piano Mark Clinton and Associate Professor of Clarinet Diane Barger.

"Lincoln has never witnessed such a diverse group of internationally known musicians to honor the music of such Masons as Mozart, Mendelssohn, Weber, Gershwin and Sousa," said Patrick Barger, Cotner's Worshipful Master.

The idea for the concert came from Cotner Past Master and Diane Barger's father, Robert "Bob" Cawein, who died five days prior to his installation in 2004 and never got to see his dream evolve. The Bargers and Clinton continued to develop the concept to ensure his idea became a reality. Tickets are $20 adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and are available via credit card at www.masterworksofmasons.com, or special arrangements to accept cash or check can be made by calling 1-866-272-2631.

The UNL Symphonic Band has the distinction of being the band program's top symphonic ensemble. Its select mission is to provide instrumentalists with an opportunity to demonstrate and develop the techniques and musical instincts appropriate to a symphonic setting.

Diane Barger is a member of the Moran Woodwind Quintet at UNL. She also serves as principal clarinet with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and is treasurer of the International Clarinet Association. She is an active soloist and chamber musician, master class clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States.

Clinton is an internationally known piano soloist, who has garnered prizes at such prestigious international competitions as the 1987 William Kapell International Piano Competition and the 1991 Joanna Hodges Piano Competition.
