| MEDICI FUND-RAISING EVENT IS FEBRUARY 17, 2007 "Modern Medicis: A Collector's Showcase" will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 to raise funds for educational programs of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Art and Art History. The event will take place in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, on the first floor of Richards Hall on the UNL city campus. Tickets are $50 per person. Premium tickets that will admit two and entitle the holder to a work of original art are available for $300. To honor the Medici legacy, the MEDICI board has invited Nebraska collectors to name artists they admire. These collectors include Lynn Boyer, Doug and Mary Campbell, John and Jan Driesbach, Robert and Karen Duncan, Carl and Janet Eskridge, Ed Forde, Norman Geske, Greg and Sheri Hurlbut, Tice and Carren Miller, J.B. Milliken and Nana Smith, Bob and Vicki Northrup, Harvey and Susan Perlman, Christian Petersen, Ky and Jane Rohman, Larry and Judy Roots, Joe and Judye Ruffo, Jim and Rhonda Seacrest, Clay and Beth Smith, and Steve Wake and Linda Esterling. The collectors have chosen 30 artists and collectors whose original works will be distributed to Premium Ticket holders the night of the event. The contributing artists are: Eric Anderson, Jim Bockelman, Judy Burton, Santiago Cal, Jan Christensen, Stephen Dinsmore, Eddie Dominguez, John Driesbach, Dave Harvey, Aaron Holz, Martha Horvay, Jacqueline Kluver, Karen Kunc, Sydney Lynch, Richard Moses, Dale Nordyke, Deb Oden, Pete Pinnell, Larry Roots, Craig Roper, Kevin Running Bear, Teresa Schmidt, Amy Smith, Carol Thompson, Steve Tracy, Allan Tubach, Sandra Varos, Kenny Walton, Robert Weaver and Dick Wiegman. These 30 original works will be exhibited at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery from Feb. 12 through the event. Special hours for this exhibition will be Monday-Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Complemenary party favors, along with apertivos, biscotti, cappuccino and vino, will add a festive air and celebrate the Florentine family that championed artists of the Renaissance. MEDICI is the Most Esteemed Donors, Intellects, Colleagues and Individuals, a friends group in support of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During the 12 years that MEDICI has served as the friends group for the department, the organization has given more than $100,000 for the purpose of kilns, presses, paprmaking equipment, catalogs, visiting scholars, and other amenities that support first-rate art educational offerings.
