| ONE-MAN SHOW PAYS HOMAGE TO PIANO GENIUS Lincoln, Neb.--Opening at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery January 19th will be the original stage production, "An Obliged Genius: A Theatrical Recital of Franz Liszt." Performed by UNL School of Music senior Curtis Moeller, of Huron, S.D., this one-man show introduces the audience to the world of this legendary figure through his life and music. Emerging as one of the most awe-inspiring performers in all of music history, Franz Liszt is regarded by many as the greatest pianist of all time. His genius extended far beyond the piano, expanding to include conducting and musical compositions that moved well beyond 19th century limitations. His unique compositions bewildered, inspired and inflamed the imaginations of his own era, while also laying the seeds for a new school that would flourish in the near and distant future. Moeller, a senior piano student and local character actor, has acted in numerous productions including "Master Class," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Sweeney Todd." This performance serves as the culmination of his senior recital, an honors thesis, and his UCARE award. "An Obliged Genius: A Theatrical Recital of Franz Liszt" is on stage for two nights only at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery on the UNL campus, January 19-20 at 7:30 p.m. All seating is on a first-come basis with no admission fee. This production is sponsored by the UNL UCARE (Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experiences) Program, the UNL School of Music, and the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. |
