Lincoln, Neb. - The details for the University of Nebraska's annual Midwest ClariFest and High School Solo Competition have been recently announced. This year's event will take place in the fall (rather than the traditional spring event) on Monday, October 4, 2010 on the UNL campus. The formal flyers will be mailed in August.

Registration will again be $10, which includes a boxed luncheon meal. Our guest artists for the event will be Dr. Denise Gainey, clarinet professor at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Peter Wright, principal clarinetist of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. In addition to wonderful sessions, master classes and performances by both artists, the day will also feature a special session on the new Nebraska All-State etudes!

The High School Solo Competition final round will take place during the afternoon on the day of the event. This year's selections include:

  • En Seul for solo clarinet by Kalmen Opperman (who recently passed away on June 18, 2010)
  • "Caprice #25" from 30 Caprices for solo clarinet by Ernesto Cavallini

The competition is open to current 9th-12th grade high school clarinetists. Please see the competition application for further details and instructions. We hope you will encourage all high school clarinet students to participate in this competition.

The day's events are open to junior high through college-aged clarinetists and teachers, so please forward this message on to as many people as you think may be interested in attending!

It's sure to be another outstanding Midwest ClariFest with Denise Gainey and Peter Wright as our guests! Hope to see you there!
