Lincoln, Neb. – Theatrix, the student-run theatre organization at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, launches its 2010-2011 season with a spirited production of Compleat Female Stage Beauty, written by Jeffrey Hatcher.

2010 YAA

Hatcher’s play follows Edward Kynaston - an actor making his living playing Shakespeare’s tragic leading ladies. It’s 1661, and Kynaston is the biggest star on the London stage, the toast of the town. The play opens at the height of his fame.

But Kynaston’s world is turned upside-down when an unknown woman named Margaret Hughes takes the stage across town portraying “Desdemona” – a role made famous by Mr. Kynaston. Ms. Hughes catches the attention of King Charles II and his mistress, Nell Gwyn. She is ultimately responsible for changing the face and future of theatre, becoming the first woman to act on the British stage.

Directed by Trent Stork, Stage Beauty is a bittersweet backstage comedy and a must-see theatrical event. The production team is led by scenic designer, Brandi Kawamoto, and costume designer, Jacob Heger, both graduate students at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. The cast includes Hunter Larrison as Kynaston, Calandra Daby as Margaret Hughes, Reagan Lopez as Nell Gwyn, Jordan Deffenbaugh as Charles II and Nate Ruleaux as Betterton.

Compleat Female Stage Beauty opens on Thursday, September 30, 2010 and closes on Sunday, October 3, 2010. September 30 - October 2, show time is at 7:30 pm; on October 3rd the show starts at 2:00 pm.
