Lincoln, Neb. - Theatrix, the student-operated theatre organization under the auspices of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, begins its 2012-2013 season with "The Pillowman" by Academy Award winning and Tony-nominated playwright Martin McDonagh. The show is under the direction of Dennis Henry as part of his curriculum requirements as an MFA director. "The Pillowman" will run September 26-28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, located on the 3rd floor of the Temple Building, 12th and R streets in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Individual show tickets are $6 via credit card (some user fees may be applied) at unltheatretickets.com or at the door the evening of the events (subject to availability). Tickets may be bought at the door at each performance beginning at 6:30 p.m.
When a series of gruesome child murders show shocking similarity to some short stories, their author, Katurian, becomes the prime suspect. Katurian’s brutal interrogation by police exposes his secret past and unveils the bizarre world of the Pillowman. In this black comedy where fantasy and reality blur and where torture and compassion intertwine, Katurian might be a monster, a victim, or a hero - if, that is, there is any difference between those things.
The scenic design for "The Pillowman" is orchestrated by technical theater graduate student Christine Donaughy. Coupled with the lighting design of graduate lighting student Clay VanWinkle, the show’s mood is enhanced with an eerie sound design by technical theatre major Richard McDermott. Technical theater major Amy Avila has designed the costumes for the show and properties have been headed by technical theatre major Lauren Blunk. The technical director, second year graduate student in technical theater Matt Rightmire, and the performance and directing and management double-major, Maggie Austin as the stage manager, supervise the entire operation. This technical team transports you from your chair into the dark caverns of an author’s imagination.
The content of this show is mature and is not suitable for all audiences. Haze, gun fire, and profanity will be used during performance.
