The ironic garments of Gossamer Trousseau fail to conceal what is commonly hidden with clothing. The ambiguous lavender sachets within the dresses represent emotions (symbolized by the heart,) weight (symbolized by the stomach,) and reproductive issues such as pregnancy (symbolized by the uterus.) The title infers that these things can no longer be hidden (from the spouse) after marriage.
The transparent tulle garments function like a bridal veil, only obscuring what it covers. The airy dresses are hung from a rack with a satin ribbon harness worn by a woman dressed in an opaque black suit who pulls them around with difficulty. Dualities such as concealing and revealing, public and private, transparency and opacity, weight and levity permeate the work.
