"Paradise Failed" is a body of work that documents the ubiquitous sight of dead palm trees in the Phoenix area. Historically, these trees served as a symbol of a tropical paradise or an oasis in the desert, luring more and more people to this arid valley.
Often palms are planted in rushed real estate developments that are never completed due to bankruptcy. The most common types of palms planted here are not native to this valley and require much more water than seasonal rains provide.
When the trees are not watered they cannot support their weight and they collapse providing a clear image of a "paradise failed."
