From Our President
Dear UNL Women's Club,
The fall season is always one of my favorite times of year. With it, not only comes the turning of the leaves and the cool crisp mornings, but also the excitement of a new academic year. It's my pleasure to welcome members and newcomers to our univer- sity community to join the fellowship and events of the UNL Women's Club.
We have an exciting year of activi- ties planned, beginning with an invitation from President James B. Milliken and Nana Smith for a luncheon in their home. To me this lovely event is somewhat like the first day of school, when I enjoyed see- ing old friends I missed during the summer and meeting new arrivals to our community.
Nana Smith, a plate of goodies, and a lovely home have replaced the teacher, books, and school. You won't be signing up for classes, but activities full of fun and enrichment through our interest groups and events. Yes, there will be fees due, but not for your gym uniform; instead, you may write out a check and be certain you won't miss out on any of the activities of this year.
Remember-part of your membership dues goes to the Women's Club Scholarship Fund that supports our well-deserving UNL students who are still involved with teachers, books, and gym uniforms. Well... maybe not gym uniforms.
The Fall Tour is sure to be a winner. Susan Taylor, Wanda Omtvedt, and Peggy Dickey put together an exciting trip to the Home- stead National Monument including lunch at The Black Crow in Beatrice. Be sure to add UNLWC Fall Tour, October 14, to your calendar.
Carol Reifler and Arlene Smith have been busy planning the Fall Brunch at The Knolls on November 11. As we go to press, the program is still in the works so it cannot be announced, but I can tell you a secret... you won't want to miss it.
Our membership is the very heart of our club and we welcome all those with a connection to the University of Nebraska. It's always wonderful to have new faces among us, so if you have friends that would be interested in joining us, invite them. Also, please contact one of our Newcomers co-chairs, Luming Brewer (261-3763) or Mae Anne Balschweid (483-4830).
Respectfully yours,
Vicki Hoffmann
UNL FWC President
