Our new member program is a ten-week program that starts the first week of school and ends with initiation. The program provides a foundation for each new member and introduces the history, traditions, privileges, and responsibilities of membership. The purpose of the new member program is to guide and assist new members in preparation for initiation and a lifetime commitment and involvement in Gamma Phi Beta. This program is based upon our chapter's "no tolerance" position on hazing and provides a safe, supportive, and hazing-free environment for the new members.
The New Member Program includes:
- Weekly Meetings - Meetings are held with the New Member Educators and include participation from all chapter members throughout the ten-week program.
- Crescent Sisters - New members are matched with a sophomore member each week for four weeks. Each pair participates in anactivity. For example, a crescent sister pair may go out for ice cream at Coldstone.
- Sneak - Sneak takes place in the early weeks of the new member program and is an opportunity for the new members to get acquainted with each other. The group meets at a new member's house and participates in some bonding activities before they "sneak" into the house.
- Pledge Mom/Daughter Revealing - Pledge mom/daughter occurs in the ninth-week of the new member program. The new members pledge a sophomore to be their "mom," and the sophomores pledge a new member to be their "daughter."
Lifetime Commitment Week - Lifetime Commitment Week occurs the week before initiation and during the tenth-week of the new member program. Each day the chapter participates in an activity with the new members that emphasizes the Gamma Phi Beta Creed: Love, Labor, Learning, and Loyalty.- New Member Sleepover - During second semester, the new members host a sleepover at the sorority house, watching movies, eating snacks and spending time with one another.
- Pledge Mom/Daughter Revealing - Pledge mom/daughter occurs in the ninth-week of the new member program. The new members pledge a sophomore to be their "mom," and the sophomores pledge a new member to be their "daughter."
