Career Development

Preparing for the next step in your career can be daunting, especially if you don’t plan ahead. Whether you hope to work in academe, business, government, or in a non-profit organization, the resources provided here will help you get a head start, gain confidence, and stay in control of finding the job that best fits you and your unique needs.

There are two steps in the career development process.

  1. Knowing what career you want to pursue (and why)
  2. Knowing how to get there
If you’re still in the planning stage, begin by completing an Individual Development Plan.  If you know where you're headed (that is, you've refined your career goals) but aren’t sure how to market your credentials, the resources in this section will help you develop and implement your job search strategies, whether you’re searching for an academic position or a position beyond the academy.
